Cannot print true black only on r1800

Help! I have an r1800 and cannot figure out how to print my b&w prints with black only ink like I did with my 1280. There is an options in Print Settings, but it DOES NOT WORK!!! B&W prints come out purplish. I want neutral gray blacks like with my 1280. I need a 13" format. ANY ADVICE? anyone?

Dont think this will do it- I just installed the drivers yesterday. It is the printer that does not seem to have the function to print with black only, even when I select this in the settings panel.

HI,
If you can click on the "Systems Preferences' and then click on 'Print and Fax' pane. You can then identify your printer and RIGHT CLICK on it. choses "reset printer' and it will automatically put the correct print drivers in and you should be back in business.

My r1800 will not print. it pulls the paper in, and throws it out without printing. I tried spraying canned air in the back, which has helped in the past, but doesn't help this time. When I called...

Your color print head might need to be cleaned. Try first to clean it using the software diagnostics that came with the printer & that should be already installed on your computer.
If this did not help, buy an inkjet printer cleaning kit from a computer store & clean the print head using the liquid & the swabs included in the kit. Follow the usage instructions that are included in the cleaning kit carefully.

The R1800 has not been used for a long time and it does not print. I have shaken the print cartridges but it is not being recognised as full when I want to print. What do you suggest I do??

Change all the cartridges to Epson Genuine Cartridges.

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?

ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Epson Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

This is the only advice I can give you. If you find this helpful, pls rate me.

Thanks and Good Luck :0)

Printer wont print because it says black ink is out just after indicating there is enough ink for 100 pages.

Your printer tries to estimate how many pages you have left but sometimes does a terrible job of doing so. You may have printed your "100 pages remaining" by printing one photo. Generally page estimates are based on 5% page coverage. I would trust your printer that it is actually out of ink.

I have inherited an Epson R1800 printer that guzzles magenta and cyan inks like crazy. Am I doing something wrong?

No, If you are printing any coloured output this will be normal depending on the actual colour content and what most people don't realise is that unless your text is pure black then it will be printed using the color carts as well and not the black ink cart.

Too expensive to run this printer

yes the inks are very expensive, but you can have a stratégie to reduce costs. make small tests before print an A4 or A3 picture. use a calibrating device to take off the color distorsion (if not, you will have alway the same cardridge empty first, usually red or blue). be carefull of the paper type, mat or glossy, they don't need the same ink quantity (specify it in the driver).
with a color calibration, you can also use generic inks, saving 50 to 70%.
However, the r1800 is a professionnal printer and the prints costs 2 to 5$...like professionnal prints!

Epson R1800 pauses during printing

If you give to the printer a big file to print, you will overfill the buffer. So it will make a stop to refill, and during this pause the ink become dry on limit. The r1800 is A3 printer 300dpi, so a 50MB file is enough to plain quality.
Try to put your file in 8 bit mode, flatten it and put it to the print size in 300dpi.
