Hello. Sadly, the answer is no. You must have the lens repaired by a tech. If the fungus is on the front lens element, trying to remove the lens for cleaning will invite disaster in short order. There are hidden set-screws, grease, precise distances, and sometimes timing positions involved. If the fungus is severe enough, the actual glass element will have to be replaced because fungus can etch itself into the surface! The key to preventing fungus is to NOT store the camera/lenses in a cool, dark, place like a closet or drawer. If you do need to store the system for a longer period, remove all batteries, use a desiccant(the little packet that says DO NOT EAT) which absorbs moisture, and then close up everything in a sealed bag. This keeps any extra moisture from entering the sealed environment of the bag while the desiccant keeps the interior extremely dry.---Hope this helps!---Rick

My nikon coolpix s3000 having lens error.. i just want to know what will be the cost of lens.. should i go to nikon auth. service center or private service center...

The lens error is due to failure of the lens control system. It will be good to have it checked at the Nikon service as you do not have to run around for spares.
You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your palms so as to dis engage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these work then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre.
get estimate before you decide.

Lens problem

Hi, if the camera shows a "Lens Error" there is probably dust inside the lens mechanism. You can try to clean it by using compressed air or bellows. Sometimes shaking the camera also helps. I had this problem myself with my Nikon Coolpix and it worked again after I cleaned it.

Nikon Coolpix Lens Error

Hi!
It could be focus system problem - most likely stuck. Could be sand or some dirt inside focus gears. They're very small for these lens which are used in many Nikon, Olympus, Casio and other cameras so even one small piece of sand can block the focus system. The only way to fix it to take the camera and lens apart and clean it.

Sorry for the bad news. I repair cameras every day and you can trust me - I know what I'm talking about.

Lens Error

I have the same problem with my nikon coolpix s200. After 2 months the lens of my camera won't go inside. On the lcd screen stood lens error. I went to a shop with this problem. He took the battery out of my camera and press the off and on button for a while. Then he put the battery back in the camera and press the on button. The lens of the camera was now going inside en outside and inside and outside with a strange noise. And also on the screen stood lens error. Okey, the lens is inside the camera. But how can I fix this camera? What is the problem? What have you done? Please let know..!!

Nikon DX 55-200mm lens

Hey Embroiteri,
I hate giving out bad news, but it sounds to me like your focusing motor is broken. I am of course going on the assumption you have the camera set to AF mode, and the lens still doesn't focus. In my experience with SLR lens is that if there are scratching or grinding noises when either focusing or zooming there is almost always something broken inside.

Sincerely,
Allan
