Question about RCA HD56W66 56" HDTV

3 Answers

I have a 56" RCA hd56w66 with a ITC222 chassis. My convergence is terrible. When I try to manually fix the red convergence in service mode, the upper left red lines are bent and will not move. Also my picture will be fine, other than the red convergence, then after a few minutes it will flicker and look 3D-ish then go back to normal. After doing this a few times it will just stay looking 3D-ish until I turn it off and back on then it does the same thing all over again. This set does not have convergence ic's and I still have convergence in my menu so it isn't the fl231 fuse. Could it be my convergence power supply and what made this go bad? Also, I've already had to replace the convergence "box" twice (at least that's what the RCA technicians called it) what would make me have to continue replacing that. I would hate to buy a new board and the same thing happen again. Any help these problems would be much appreciated!

Have the connections around the flyback transformer checked for cold solder joints.

Thats a common problem and easy repair. You can get the ITC222 and ITC222A convergence option missing repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which has the parts and the CD with repair instructions.

I have a 52" rca hdtv. the screen looks like its in 3d. can this be fixed? model# hd52w67

It seem like a convergence trouble. I tink it is a ITC222 chassis in this set. If it is, you probleme is eeprom for convergence need to be reprogrammed and cause no power on convergence board.

I have a RCA 56" hdtv model # hd56w66 with an ITC222A chassis. The red convergence is way bent on the left side, especially in the top left. When I go into the service mode to manually fix it, the red...

Your symptom sounds like a intermitant or damaged convergence IC.

There are two and large IC’s that control the convergence in a big screen set. They are secured to a very large aluminum heat sink. They will have a part number stamped on them that will start with an STKXXX-XXX, like STK392-110, and they are located on the signal board (on the left as you look into the back of the set).

Along with the convergence IC’s there will also be some associated components that will need to be replaced as well. There are some resistors that are part of the convergence circuit that will be open and need to be replaced. Most likely these will appear charred in the center. If you have an Ohm Meter or a DVM, check all the resistors that are close to the IC’s and you should be looking for either ones that have opened or have changed values.
There are also two resistors on the front of the board located in the middle that are fusible link resistors, these should be checked for opens and replaced if they are found so.

I would suggest that you contact a service center in your area for a complete diagnosis and repair, as this type of repair can get a little tricky. But if you want to repair the set yourself, just remember to be careful. The capacitors and CRT’s can hold a charge and may shock you.

If one of the convergence IC’s are found to be bad, I would replace them both, if one has gone bad the other may go soon. I usually order my parts from Andrews Electronics in California, they will have the OEM components that you will need.
Their site is http://www.andrewselectronics.com/welcome.aspx
And their phone number is a 24-Hour Order Desk: (800) 274-4666
I recommend the phone order so you can talk to the person about the different types of IC’s that are available.

I would also advise that the convergence IC’s be OEM or better, just because they are cheap does not mean that they are a good deal. I have seen the cheap IC’s fail after a short time, even though they look exactly like the OEM IC’s. I think that the bottom line is that you will get what you pay for when it comes to the parts.

You can also try http://www.tvrepairkits.com/ , I have not tried them yet, but they do carry OEM or better parts.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

if you have a rca hd56w66 chasis itc222 you may have the common fl231 fuse problem. I see this everday at the shop. to determine if you may have this problem. i have written a little article on this subject. Consult tips and tricks section under my profile. Going into maintence mode might have reset some settings.

FL231 fuse on RCA hd56w66??

the rca itc222 comes in both 56 and 52 version.. If you do not have the convergence option in the customer menu under setup then there is a high chance that the fuse will be the trouble

RCA R52WH74 (ITC222A Chassis)

no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.

Distorted Screen for RCA HD56w66

convergence is the problem. first question do you have convergence in the customer setup menu. if you do not it could be a special small fuse if you do have "convergence" in the setup menu then you most likely have a convergence power board issue. and generally they are replaced. in our shop such board replacement average 124 labor and about 100 for part. if the fuse bout 15 for part and 80 for labor. there are solder connection that cause the blown fuse
