Question about Mitsubishi CS-35503 TV

1 Answer

Mitsubishi CS-35503 Blank Screen for a few moments then total loss of power, will not turn on

Great television, lots of years of good images until last few weeks with an occasional loss of picture for 2 to 5 seconds.   After two weeks of about 5 occurances the picture finally quite for good.   No indication of any power at this point.

Not helpful. Looking for possible known solution to common problem, not a recommendation for to call a tech, but thanks for the disclaimer on safety. I am quite aware of the dangers.

I am a electronics tech, but haven't worked on a consumer TV in 25 years. This second post is helpful...thanks. You described the problem very well, the original problem was a couple of seconds of going black and now permanent loss of image. I thought by posting a question specific to this model, CS-35503 Mitsubishi, a common problem would be identified with the identification of likely components.

(example: This model has a common problem with C861 leaking after a number of years. Replace C861, located in the right corner of the main circuit board and your problem will likely be solved. Also look for burn marks near R23, this sometimes creates a similar problem. NOT A REAL SOLUTION, EXAMPLE DESCRIPTION ONLY)

Without the schematic to troubleshoot or knowledge of parts availability for this 10+ year monster TV I was taking a quicker option in asking the forum experts. My problem is of course having too much knowledge about how to repair the equipment once I know the solution, vs not having the correct troubleshooting tools (schematics). Also I have considerable rust in TV repair and respect any tech that has specific experience in their field of work.... which is why I posted originally. Based on the expert knowledge of the forum, is this problem correctable with a home service call at a reasonable labor and parts cost. <$400.00 for example. Otherwise I have a date with the recycle trash collector.

After removing the back cover of the 35 inch set and inspecting for any obvious signs of heat related damages, I simply decided it was time to upgrade anyway rather then fix. As good as an excuse as any, 10 year set, no picture, obsolete technology.... so went out and got a 46 inch LCD TV that fits in the 4x3 furniture console. Now with the HD options and the 1080p display screen I am upgrading about everything else in the cabinet too.

It must be some transistor that is failing.. i recomend you to give it to someone who can fix it for you, because tvs, even if they are unplugged, they can give you a strong electrical charge tat can even kill you..

well dude... either way, i doubt thats a problem you can solve entirely here, trust me, capacitors and transistors is better to be changed by repairmen. unless you are a repair men, but if that would be the matter you would have already fix it... =D

but just for curiosity... the image goes black for a couple of seconds and it comes back? or do you turn on the tv and after a couple of seconds it turns black?... if its the first case, give it some time and the capacitor will collapse... if its the second case, then the capacitor is already busted..

if parts could cost up to that much i would buy a new HD tv.. or a really fed-up computer so it could be a media center, where you can have all your fun there.. just buy a huge CRT monitors (these days are dirt cheap and they have good quality)
add a dvd unit in the PC, broadband connection, a nice set of speakers like a home theater and it will be extremely awesome, you could do everything you want there in a huge screen.. i am actually writing this in a 21" CRT at 1800X1200 monitor, and the site looks funny and small.. and doing web design here is awesome. you have all the space you could need.. even better than having 2 lcd of 17" or 19" sharing the desktop..

I have a Mitsubishi CS 3515R 35" Tube TV. The screen has narrowed at the top and the bottom so only about 2/3 of the horizontal screen has picture. There are black areas at the top and bottom....

There are two issues, the first is a vertical deflection problem, "needs a few parts+an ic" the second problem is intermittent color, "crystal and color processor ic" If the set is close to 10 years old then your money is better spent on a new tv.

Screen is black except for thin line in middle of screen

The problem is in the vertical section of the main board. Bad capacitors and maybe the vertical IC. If you are not inclined to be a tech you will have to take it to a shop.. I don't know what they may charge but I normally get $69- $89

I'm not quite sure why the cable company would think that your tuner is bad, but yes you can get these. What are teh symptoms that make them think the tuner is bad?

Covergence problem

your set has indications of several problems. red green and blue. indcate convegence issue. the fact that the picture is concave is a indication of totall loss of covergence power supply. the convegence menu missing idicate loss of some voltages from what know as the flyback.AND SHUTDOWN. indicate further problems. generally when convergence fails ..not always the set wont shut down. it could be a simple issue but further trobleshooting would have to occur to narrow it down.

Mitsubishi Diamond Series CS-27609 problem...image looks "fisheye"

2 years later and I may have a solution for you

I has a similar problem and I didn't quite fix it but made it less noticeable.

Press menu and then the code 2-3-5-7, this enters a service menu. Press Audio/Video to go between the options to get to options 40-50 to adjust geometry. Be sure to write what setting there on before you change it (even if they're wrong) just in case.

Its just trial and error from there, and hope I can still help.
