Well... If I were you, I'd go to www.ubuntu.com and order a free CD from them.

after I get it, I'd boot it up, and try to recover my data through its Live Operating system.

After that, I'd get a copy of windows (or whatever OS You are using) and Format completelly the hard drive (Since I already backed up the data, there shouldn't be a problem) and just install it.

How do I access the factory restore from either f12 or f2?

U may not have to do a factory restore. That is painful.
Boot into safe mode (repeated hit F8 while booting and select SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING.
once there open START menu and type CMD. Rt clk the top item (CMD.exe) and select run as admin...
When DOS window opens type chkdsk c: /f
it will ask u if u want to do it on next reboot - say yes, then reboot.
when done it will try to reboot. If it works u r good to go.
if it does not get into safe mode again and to the DOS window and type SFC /SCANNOW
This will run a chk of ur system files and fix any corrupt ones.
Do that even if it does boot up normally.
If u can't get into safe mode then u need tall boots.
A system restore may be needed. HOWEVER, that wipes away everything on the HDD. I would first try to do a Windows update install. That will reinstall windows and leave programs and data intact.
If that does not work, then connecting the HDD to another computer to remove ur data and reformat the HDD before trying a restore is recommended as u may have an HDD issue.

Cant get past blue hp invent screen

Sounds like you have corrupt or missing boot or system files. First try these steps.
1) Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the SAFE MODE option. Take the Safe Mode option and see if you machine boots into safe mode. If it does safe mode look different, but that is normal, the icons are bigger and the screen is darker. Once in safe mode click Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore. Once you are in system restore see if you can roll your system back to a date and time before you had the boot up problem. Don't worry, System Restore does not remove any of your documents, music, pics, videos or data. System Recovery removes everything and sets your computer back to when you first purchased it. Once the restore is complete reboot and see if your problem is solved. If not proceed to step 2.

2) You'll need a repair disc or system disc to get around it. If you have one insert it in the cd drive and boot from it. Get to the recovery screen where you can type in the black widow with the white writing the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or more so be patient. You will even see it going from high to low percentage of completion, but that's normal. When it finishes reboot and see if you're ok. If not you'll have to reinstall the operating system. Try doing a repair install whereas it looks to see if there is an already existing operating system on the computer and repairs it without losing any of your data, documents, music, pictures, videos etc. If you do a new install it will lose everything.

COMPUTER TURNS ON, BUT THERES NO START UP AND SCREEN IS BLANK

Try to go to Safe Mode by reseting the computer then tapping F8. If your able to acces safe mode follow these instructions:

1. Go to start then click on RUN
2. Type msconfig
3. go to services tab, click hide microsoft services then click disable all
4. reboot the computer and see it it will go to normal mode. It you will be able to boot to normal mode it only means that one of the isntalled software is preventing windows to load
5. if still cant boot you neet to reformat the system

Since i ve download flash player 10 its says that my ATI drivers arn t good ??? my computer become all pixel and keep on rebooting by itself..

Turn off the machine, now turn On again and keep pressing F8 (don't hold down, just keep tapping) while it boots up, when you see the black screen with white texts, use the arrow up and down key and select "Safe Mode" by pressing "Enter". It'll boot into Safe Mode, from there, try reinstalling the Graphics drive (your ATI Graphics Card driver), and reboot the system normally. It'll work fine. If you can install the drivers from the Normal Boot (boot up without pressing anything), then it's better. Try your best. If there's no other hardware or software conflict, your problem will be fixed.

You can also try uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Flash Player.

Good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Problem not fix

Boot the machine in safe mode, then reboot as normal, if the problem persists after reboot did you
install software proir to this try reinstall. Use anti virus and spyware malware scans etc.

Running in safe mode, is exactly that safe while most problems exist in OS.
Let me know how you get on.

Try going to Safe Mode. Normally you press F8 when you start the computer. When in Safe Mode, click Start -> Run then type msconfig. On the first tab, click on Diagnostic Startup. Apply, close and reboot the computer to Normal Mode. Lockups during startup are caused by startup programs.

Unable to start laptop

Hello,

I understand the urgency and also the importance of data stored in the laptop.

As the laptop is unable to start in normal mode let us try in safe mode.

Follow the steps below:

1. Turn the laptop off completely.
2. Press the power on button to turn it on and at the same time simultaneously keep tapping ' F8 ' key on key pad until you see a advanced boot options screen.
3. Select 'safe mode' and hit enter.

Thank you.

i think you have corrupted system or maybe corrupted hard drive (most likely it would be corrupted system).

so all you need to do is just go with the recovery option when turning on the computer (most of the computer use F12 to go to the recovery council)

so try the recovery council if that doesn't fix it then you will need to reinstall windows (to prevent loosing data select the second repair option when prompted to reinstall windows).

if you need any further help please let me know

cheers
