Question about Canon Pixma MP500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

PIXMA MP500 I continually run out of black ink in the number 5 cartridge, but the number 8 cartridge is completely full.  Is there any way possible I can make it so that the printer uses the number 8 black ink cartridge to print?  Thanks!

I have an almost full cartridge in black no 8 but it flashes and won't print yet the ink is in there? Help how can I solve this problem This has happened before and is frustrating an expensive wasting ink to replace seems silly when the cartridge is full. cheers thanks in advance

The number 5 is a Pigment text black while the number 8 is a dye photo black. The text black is for black text mainly and the photo black is for use when printing photos. Since the text black is always running out it means you are printing a lot of documents in plain paper mode.

I recommend using QUALITY refill ink like Hobbicolors which is sold on eBay and will save you a bundle of money. The MP830 is a 5 ink printer so you need the 5 ink kit like the IP4300.

Black ink cartridge is full, when printing no black showing

Reset waste ink counter

To reset waste ink counter at printers canon pixma MP150, MP160, MP170, MP180, MP450 and MP460 there any 2 choice, that is :

Start with printer on then run this software
Click Reset Main (main) to reset waste ink counter and then click Reset Platen button (additional)

When you insert a refilled ink cartridge into your Pixma MP500 printer you should get a warning about the refilled cartridge. You should also be prompted, asking if you wish to disable ink level detecting. Agree to do so, and you won't get the warnings again because the ink levels won't be monitored by the printer.

I have the PIXMA MP500 & 3 of m ink cartridges #8 blue, magenta & yellow ran out of ink but I have a brand new #8 black & #5 pgbk that I changed. Now I just want to print from the black ink...

Unfortunately, the printer is designed to need all of the ink cartridges in place and no empty ink cartridges. This is designed to protect the ink system from damage.

There is a way to print a color document in black and white but it won't help with your issue. (Enter the Printing Preferences by right clicking on the icon for the Canon MP500 in the Devices and Printers Panel (Win7). (It's Printers for the Vista Classic View and Printers and Faxes for XP) Then put a check mark in the box for Greyscale Printing in the main tab. Then click OK and close the window. There is a similar method for Mac OS versions.)

I wish that I had better news.

Printer has Half way Full ink but dosent use

These are the symptoms of a poor quality ink. If you have run the deep cleaning and alignment for the ink cartridges, I would replace the cartridges with OEM ink cartridges to clear the problem. Aftermarket inks are sometime not up to manufacturer specifications.
Try cartridges from LD Products. I've not had problems with their inks on my 5 different Canon printers.

My PIXMA MP500 tells me that my black#5 cartridge is out of ink when it clearly still has ink in the reservoir as well as the sponge. How can I fix this?

It's probably dry ,have you used it regularly?
Try to do a head clean on the printer using the printers software.
If that doesnt work then you will have to replace the cartridge.
