It really depends who made the mini split Marlene? It is usually and error state or the filters need cleaning because the unit has recorded low air flow. Turn off the breaker to the whole system for an hour to reset it. Wait 5 minutes before operation as it goes through it Self-Test.
Call a technician! Ask if they are experienced in mini split systems. You can check the air filters. Check the outdoor coil to see if its clean or covered up with dirt. If it is then turn off power & wash it. And at the breaker or disconnect, turn off power, wait 5 mins, and turn it back on. Then give it 3-5 mins to see if it will reset itself. If this don't work, call a tech/service provider! These units are troublesome to troubleshoot.

Heya Harmlhs, If the system is going into a vaccum that shows the compressor is working I would say it is either short of gas or it is a problem with the RCD. If the compressor is getting really hot i would say that it would short of gas and it is not best to use it untill a licenced person comes and looks at it before the compressor is seriously damaged.
