Hi, recently got zoom error problem on my loyal fuji s7000, after years of service. first time, I was able to retract lens by hitting it gently while power cycling. 2nd time, hitting wouldn't work so ended up opening the lens barrel assembly. It inst that hard as described by some of the posts. here is what I did: 1. open up first three screws near lens. 2. gently pull out the front assembly, which composed of front holding part, focus ring, white toothed ring. 3. then opened up three screws near flash side, pulled out the barrel assembly. it also have a plastic ring in it. 4. noticed some dust around plastic ring, cleaned it. Wiggle the internal barrel, it moves back and forth. Tried power cycling camera few times to make sure it works. 5. put the ring back together in barrel first aligning with peg and hole. 6. put the barrel back in and tighten screws near flash. 7. put the white and external focus ring back on. 8. put the external holding ring in. 9. it is easy to align if you slide it inline with front screws. done and camera works for now. -Salman

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Turn on camera..view finder and/or display screen

The s7000 has three different display modes: Screen, viewfinder, and off. Screen is for looking at the big screen, viewfinder is for looking through the digital viewfinder, and off should turn off all the displays. Try pressing the DISP button once. That should reactivate the screen and make it possible to use the camera again.

Photos are "whited" out, like a burned out image in the center

Did you point it at the Sun?
I think you have burned out the CCD/CMOS sensor.
The display wont have been affected.

If its not insured for accidental damage, its a bin job!

On the back of the camera to the left of the "BACK" button is a button with a picture of a magnifying glass in a rectangle. If you press this button you should lose the zoom box!! Hope this helps!

Per the owner's manual:

  1. Insert a formatted media into the camera.
  2. Set "RENEW" as the FRAME NO. setting in the SET-UP menu.
  3. Start taking pictures. (the frame numbers start from "100-0001".)
  4. Set "CONT." as the FRAME NO. setting in the SET-UP menu.
Then you're done. We just did this on ours and now we're ready to go. God Bless.

Fuji Finepix S7000 zoom error

If it is 'relatively' new then the best place is the place you bought from- under UK legislation they are responsible to repair or replace. If you are not in the UK then look up the Fuji website for your country- technical help. there is possibility they will direct you to a suitable place.
