Question about Sharp BDHP20U Blu-Ray Player

Wrong firmware updated to my Sharp HP20

When I played a newly-bought BD title, it directed me to visit www.blu-ray.com which I did and clicked on firmware to download a firmware update. no warning was displayed when I downloaded and updated it to my player. now my player only plays US version movies and not Australian. I have 50 blu-ray discs in my collection and only a quarter of them that I have watched. i have called up Sharp but they wouldn't offer any free support to my problem. my player's been idle and useless for 5 months now and they have just voided my warranty. Can someone please offer any help? I just want to flash the current firmware so I can update the UK version.

Don't buy Sharp products. They are ****!

Hi,
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US.
click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Phillips BDP5100 not play BD (unknown disc) but DVD read and play no problem How can i do pls Help me ????

The player detects that the discs contains unauthorized copies of movie titles.

The disc is with a new format which is not yet supported by the player. Some newly released Blu-ray titles in the market apply new disc format which did not exist when the player was manufactured. This leads to playability problem with these discs. This is not a defect of the player and can possibly be solved by firmware upgrade.
The Philips technical team is constantly working on the firmware development to enable the player to play such discs. Installing the latest firmware in your player helps to ensure optimal playback performance. Please visit the support website of your player regularly to check out new firmware release.
Before you update, read the Firmware Upgrade Readme File on the Software and Drivers page. It contains information on playability resolution on discs of particular movie titles.

If the latest firmware is installed in the player and only one disc can't be played, there may be some problems with the disc. It may be defective/scratched.
Another possibility is that the lens of the player is dirty. Try cleaning the disc and the lens with a lens cleaning kit which is available at electronics stores

I have a Sharp Aquo BD-HP20 and it not playing expandables or prince of persia, neither Letter for Juliet

Try updating the firmware. You will need a usb device 2GB. You can try burning the software to a disc but that is not guaranteed to work. You can get the firmware from this link: http://www.sharp.ca/downloads/default2.asp
Click on blu ray players and then next and then your model number and then done.
Hopefully you are using internet explorer. If you are using mozilla firefox then please go to Tools-Options-and choose ask me where to save files.

So save this file to the desktop and save it not open it. Then double click on it when it is saved to your desktop and then choose folder tasks-extract all files-(extract to your usb device). You can find your usb device under my computer. Then take your usb device over to the bluray player. Insert it and then turn the bluray player on. Press the setup button and go to settings then to software update. Begin the update and a bar will let you know its progress. Then turn off the bluray player before taking out the usb device. When you turn it back on it should be ready to play the titles that would not play. If not you need to press setup and go to the menu and go to settings and system reset. Complete the system reset. Then press and hold down the power button on the front of the unit until it says reset on the front of the unit. You may need to do this between playing movies every time you use the player.

Make sure that you do have Version HU9071500 installed--->press setup button------>settings-------> version. If it is installed then after you insert Avatar it takes between 8 and 10 minutes before you can select play movie.

Its asking for an update in order that I can play this b/ray dvd!

There is no cost to update the player on your own. You will need a 2GB flash drive formatted to the fat 32 file system. You can download the update to your usb device directly from www.sharp.ca
Click on Service Support, downloads, Blu ray player, next your model number, done
Click on the firmware and save it to your usb device.

Refer to the manual on page 40 for directions on completing the update on your player.

See my other posts regarding this problem where I explain in detail what happens when playing Avatar on this unit and completing a software update.

Best Buy can also update the unit for you for a charge.
