Can see picture when it flashes on. Checked inputs, everything is okay. Comes on for few seconds then off for few seconds. Power light stays on. Any thoughts?

I've had the same set for many years happens every few year disconnect set power from wall wait 30 seconds plug back in fixed. If you look kin the back of the owners manual it's suggest the same fix for an apparent no power problem.

richol....Thanks a bunch...my Hitachi Ultravision 60" rear projection model 60ux54b/55k was doing exactly the same thing....unplugged it for a minute....plugged it back in and it is working like new again...it is a 1997 and it still works great with beautiful picture. Thanks again....you saved me a service call and likely about $200. I keep it in the basement for the kids to play games on so I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on it.

I've had the same issue although I don't unplug everything. I turn it off and then unplug it from the wall for 10 seconds then plug it back in. Seems ok after that. Has happened 4 or 5 times over the 10 years I've owned it.

I've had this problem before. I turn it off, disconnect everything, and unplug it for 24 hrs or so and it solved itself. No idea why…but worth a shot.

Tv has no picture

If you have lost your picture you can try a few steps. The first step would be to reset your receiver by unplugging it for ten seconds. If that does not resolve the issue, you will need to check the cable going from the receiver to the TV set. Start by making sure it's firmly connected. If the cable is a coax cable (screws on) tune the TV set to each of the following channels to see if you can get a picture: 3, 4, 60, 73 If you have a digital cable that just plugs into the receiver and the TV then you will want top cycle inputs until you receive a picture. To do this press the input or source button on the side of your TV you will see the name of the input flash at the top of the screen. Press the input button multiple times to change from one input to the next. Make sure to pause on each input for a few seconds to make sure the picture comes up. Do you take the back panel off to replace the bulb

No, you take the front panel off and you will see a small access panel. There is your lamp.

Hitachi rear projection lcd lp500 series

It is likely the projection lamp is weak, causing the picture to cycle on and off. Take the lamp out and examine the reflector. If it is dull and cloudy, it's time to replace the lamp. A new lamp will have a reflector that is shiny and looks like a mirror. Be sure to rate this solution. Thanks!

Mine did the same but no picture, just sound every few seconds for 1-2 seconds. I unplugged from the wall for 10 seconds and plugged back in, works fine now.

TV Picture Goes Black

I had the same exact problem.
I removed the bulb and cleaned it. There is a small screen at the top of the bulb and it was covered with dust. Once it was cleaned I replaced the bulb and it solved the problem.
Thanks to those who posted the solutions
