How to change battery for my remote for my tom tom go 920

The battery is "hard wired in and it takes special tools to open the GPS and replace it. In short it must go back to Tomtom for service and battery replacements.

I have a tom tom go 920 when i turn it on all i get is the tom tom sign i have replaced the battery but still not working at all is there some where i can send it to to get it fixed?. I live in Vancouver...

Call customer service with the unit plugged in to the cradle. They can walk you through some updates and if necessary reformat the unit. If that doesn't work and it's out of warranty then you're screwed. They have a software glitch and if reformatting doesn't work and it's out of warranty then they suggest you throw the unit away and buy another. Trust me, I won't buy another TomTom.

Detailed instructions to replace the battery on a TomTom 920 are here:

(Just download the .doc file and open)

I will post below, but the original instructions have pictures that may not be visible below

TomTom GO x20 (and probably x30) Battery Replacement
First, you’ll need to procure a matching Lithium Polymer battery. I’ve run across others of the same type on the net, but have noted odd numbers of wires and mismatched connectors. I purchased the “real deal” at BatteryShip.com under their part number AHL03713100. They don’t seem to realize that they have more than just a GO920/920T battery. Trust me, the 720 and 720T use exactly the same pack. Each uses the same 3 pin connector.

As I have yet to own either of these in the x30 flavor, I can’t say with absolute certainty that the pack is identical in all respects, but I’ve heard nothing to the contrary.

If you purchase from BatteryShip.com, you’ll also receive a couple of torx head wrenchs and a plastic tool that looks like you’d use it to remove miniature bicycle tires. The miniature slot and philips screwdrivers won’t be needed unless your unit was built with different screws than mine. Come to think of it, I believe my original 720 used philips screws.

Step #1 – Remove Antenna Plug and Screws
Start by flipping the unit on its face on a soft surface. Remove the antenna plug with your fingers, and remove the two screws indicated...

Step #2 – Separate Display from Case

Using the screwdriver or something slightly larger, push on the threaded insert where the screw had been until you begin to see the front of the unit move away from the case. Move back and forth between the two sides. It may be a bit sticky. Carefully pull the top of the unit away from the case. The bottom of the unit is held into the case mechanically using a little hook mechanism. Don’t force the separation. Lift the unit away from the hook on the bottom during separation.

WE HAVE TO PUSH OUR GREEN PRINT BUTTON WAY TO HARD TO GET IT TO WORK ON OUR PC 920

You will need to remove the front control panel assembly (2 screws and 1 ribbon cable) with copier opened like removing a paper misfeed (or replacing toner unit). Next, you will need to separate circuit board from control panel in order to gain access to the switch under the green print button. Sometimes, you can use electrical contact cleaner (tuner cleaner) to spray into the switch itself, pressing the switch numerous times to evaporate the solution from inside contacts of said switch. Now use a multimeter to check for continuity while depressing the switch and releasing. If cleaning the switch fails, either the switch will need to be replaced or the control circuit board will need to be replaced...replacing the switch isn't difficult, if you know how to solder. Reassembly is reverse of disassembly.

I have a hp fax 920, want to take off covers to troubleshoot a no original feed problem. Where can I get service or parts manual. thanks.

I use to fix these years ago. Open the top cover, remove the scanner cover and remove two screws. The screws are located on the inside one on the right and another on the left, closer to the top of the unit. I believe you need a T10 screwdriver and you will have to pry the covers off pulling the right cover to the right and the left cover to the left. It's a little tricky just be careful not to break anything. This is an old unit good luck getting parts.

How to change a tomtom go 920 battery

Undo the 2 screws (Torx7) on the back of the case. This allows the top of the screen to be pulled forward by slipping a fingernail under the screen bezel and gently pulling. Move from top corner to opposite top corner of the bezel and gently ease the screen out of the case. Be careful as there are 2 plastic clip devices about two thirds down the screen. Ease these two plastic clips with your fingernails. Do not pull on the screen as it is attached via a stiff ribbon cable to the board beneath it and this board is still screwed to the case by 4 screws. By very careful manoeuvring, position the screen on each and every occasion so that all of the 4 black screws (Torx7) can be undone without pressurising the stiff ribbon cable connected to the screen unduly. This releases the board from the case, be careful with releasing the on/off switch as you ease the board out of the case. On the back of this board is the battery, a rechargeable Lithium Polymer 3.7v 1300mah. The battery is obtainable from suppliers using the internet is a good start. The battery is stuck to the back of the board, so it is a question of easing it off and replacing it. Double-sided sticky pads work well. Finally, replace the board back in the case, not forgetting to engage the on/off switch and screw-up the 4 screws. Do not over-tighten and do not put undue pressure on the stiff ribbon cable connecting to the screen. Then replace the screen gently and re-tighten the 2 screws on the back of the case. Place Tomtom 920 in it's charger for 10 hours. This is a slightly fiddly job that needs patience, care and a gentle touch. If you do not have these qualities, please don't attempt this.
