You have a bad coupler. This is very common but not to worry. This is a direct drive machine and there are very few things that go bad on them. One is the coupler, another is the water pump. Other than these, nothing else hardly ever goes bad on them.
Now for the coupler, It's located between the motor and transmission. You will need to remove the case. Once you have, you only need to un clip the water pump and then the motor. You will then see the coupler. If you haven't been inside one of these, you don't get in through the back. You will take a screw out of each end of the console. Pull forward and flip back. Now un clip the clips on each corner under the console. Unplug the wire under the console. Now pull forward on the case, tilting it toward you and pick up. You are now inside the machine. The water pump it at the bottom. Good luck.

My Kenmore washer drains after the rinse cycle but won't spin at the end of it's cycle. If I manually set it to the spin cycle, it spins just fine. Desperate!!! The lid switch was just replaced about

Possible there is problem with the timer controller unit. It seems that the stepper motor is not moving to the next cycle until you manually move it to the spin. You can use some contact cleaners on the switch and also carefully try to see if the timer moves within , replacement is a costly issue and must be debated

My washer only runs until it's time for the rinse cycle and then it stops completely. It doesn't rinse or spin. What's going on?

hello, it sounds like a failed lid switch part #3949247 it wont rinse or spin with a bad lid switch. it also wont rinse or spin if there is no cold water to the unit.

Kenmore 80 series top load washer. In the permanent press mode the machine will stop when it moves to the rinse mode. I can manually move the time past the midpoint of the cycle it will run for a minute...

So it will spin and drain when put in the spin cycle right? More than likely it is your timer if you have to keep manually setting. I would check on timer prices and go from there.

Spin/drain cycle won't start

If the timer gets to the rinse cycle and stops,
Check the lid switch for continuity. If no continuity replace the lid switch.
If the timer continues through rinse and spin without doing either, replace the timer.

Does not spin in most cycles

It sounds like your timer is defective.  If this is the case you will have to replace it.
