Question about Belkin (F5D7230-4) Router (587009)

Problem with connection to router and DSL

We have a Belkin wireless router, model #F5D7230-4 ver.4002. We have a DSL connection through AT&T (formerly Bellsouth Fast Access DSL). The connection is as such:

Phone cable -> Westell DSL Modem -> Belkin Wireless Router -> Desktop

The desktop is running Windows 98 and until recently the computer could connect to the internet with the setup above with no problems. Recently there was a DSL outage (due to a problem with the server) and since then the computer has not been able to connect to the internet through the router. I have changed the ethernet cables in hopes of correcting the problem, but to no avail. The laptops in the house are all running XP and are getting an excellent signal from the router, but the desktop receives nothing unless directly connected to the DSL modem.

I would go to run and type in cmd. then type in ipconfig, I believe that is right for windows 98. I would look on there and see if that is getting a correct IP and if the DNS server says 192.168.0.1 if it is a belkin router. ipconfig /? will give you the commands you can use with that. There is a ipconfig /renew that will refresh them all. You might have it set to be a static IP and you would want it to be dynamic and have it refresh by itself. You can go to http://hippo.colorado.edu/info/ipsetup/staticip_setup.cgi?os=win98 for directions to change it to dynamic, I would just do the opposite of what they suggest to make it auto config. It sounds like it is looking for a previous DNS server which is not there anymore because the DSL connection reset.

We have a nintendo dsixl. we also have a cisco n router that works fine with our hp laptop. we can not get the ds to pick up a signal or if it picks up a signal it is very weak and disconnects quickly....

If the internal wireless does not work there are a couple items to check. First make sure that the wireless router supports 802.11b, as routers that only broadcast in 802.11g or 802.11n may not be compatible. Then make sure that the DS is within proper range of a wireless router and has a signal strength of at least two bars. If trying to play a multi-player game, make sure that all DS systems are within 30 feet of each other, and that each DS has its own game card if needed. When trying to connect to a wireless router, also make sure that the correct encryption key is being used. The DS lite will also only work with WEP (Wired Encryption Protocol), because WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) is not supported. The website at the bottom of this guide is a link to Nintendo's Customer Service site that has information on how to configure your specific wireless router based on its manufacture and model number. If these steps do not work, the wireless card in the DS may need to be replaced. Additionally, Nintendo has found the following routers to have known compatibility issues.
Actiontec GT704-WG
Belkin F5D7231-4 ver 1102
Belkin F5D6231-4 ver 1000
Belkin F5D7230-4 ver 4000
D-Link DI-514 ver B1
D-Link DSL-G604T
SMC SMC2804WBR-G product code: 751.7412
The following link has information about properly configuring your specific WiFi router to work with the DS.

You'll need to reconfigure the wireless setting on your router, try changing tyhe channel and see if the will work or disable/r\enable wireless encryption and get the correct keys. Contact your router manufacturer they should be able to assist you how to do this.

Cant connect to internet

How many computers are you using?
Are they all wired or wireless ?
Steps
1. Your modem should be connected to the wired port of the router
2.Your computers should be connected from the the other blue ports on the back of the router
3. Now open up the set up page by typing in 192.168.2.1
4. on the top right hand corner you"ll see your status connected or no connection
5. if status is no connection
6. click on restore factory default and let it reboot
7. now comes one more important question what is the version no of the router
8. it is a 4 digit no like 1000,2000.......7000
9. If ver is 7000 then definately go to the site www.belkin.com/support and download firmware version 9.01.10 for ver 7000 or similar
10. On your router setup page select firmware update and load the file
10.Should resolve your issue specially if your isp connection is cable like comcast etc
11. then reconfigure by using connection type
clonig mac address if cable or entering u/name password if dsl
12. also change the channell to 11 as that gives the best reception wirelessly

Should fix the problem definitely but it could have been easier if i knew your exact version no, modem isp,(cable or dsl) , type of computers (wired or wireless) etc . Make of computers (mac or windows) .You can even access other computers wirelessly but you have to connect to your network on the wireless computer.

Can't get a wireless router to work with a speedstream 4200

This may actually be an issue with your ISP. There is a good possiblity that your ISP has bound your connection to the MAC address of the network card on your computer. This is a common occurance which is why router manufacturers give you the option of having your router clone your computer's MAC address. Go into your router's management an perform the clone, sorry I cannot give you more details but I don't know the specific model of your Belkin router.
