Question about Canon EOS Elan 7e 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

The film door on the back of my camera broke tonight, a very small piece of plastic came off and promptly fell into the grass. Even if I hold the door shut there is no connection. What do I need to have repaired and how hard is it going to be to replace? Thank you

Hello. Repairing the door latch shouldn't be that much of a headache. Definitely send the camera in to a reputable facility. Don't send it in through a retail store! (They tack on needless charges and add it to the bill *you* see.) Check with CanonUsa if you can't find a good repair shop. Below is the address I got when checking with Canon Support. Hope I helped you!---Rick

Card Cover Open

I have the same problem. The card-cover has to be physically held down for the camera to work. I have even taken pictures and because I didn't hold the card-cover down hard enough the pictures disappeared.
I have noticed on my camera that tiny portion of the plastic card-cover is missing. It is the very tip of the card-cover and would normally be angled up to snap into place and hold the card-cover closed. Apparantly this tiny piece of plastic broke off and now the whole camera has to be carefully handled. Can anyone tell me where I can get another card-cover?

Back of camera will not close looks like small piece of plastic has broken

Yes, the film door was always a problem on these. The entire door was usually replace since it was one piece with the latch.

I do not believe that Nikon supplies the part any more. You can check eBay for a dead camera, or possibly a new /used door.

The other option is a repair kit available from USCamera.com

Film rewind crank came off, rewind shaft fell into camera body. a) Can I get camera open? b) Is reassembling pieces fairly easy? Thank you, Paul LaFond

Yes, and yes. A small hook is needed, a small crochet hook will work. The latch is on the side farthest away from the center of the camera. You are pulling up to free the door latch. The rewind knob is tricky, but possible. Keep the door open while re-assembling as the center shaft will be loose till you get the knob on. The handle and pin are easy, assemble them 1st. Hold the center shaft, put the coil spring in, then the washer and finally the spring plate. Guide the handle/knob assembly onto the shaft with the parts. It is tricky to hold it all in place, but is possible.

Camera film door will not latch. The door latch

Can it be repaired? It needs a new latch piece. Maybe a new door, if its all one piece.
I do not own one so not sure about that model. Look at the door hinge. If a small lever sticks out of the hinge, it may be easily removed and replaced with a new door. otherwise you need to remove the bottom plate of the camera to replace the door. Be very careful doing so as things could pop out when you open it.
You could also send it in to a repair shop, where they will also clean, lubricate and adjust it before returning.

Is it worth it? Only you can answer that. You might be able to pickup a used one on Ebay, so you have a source of parts.
If you have no reason to keep that particular camera, replace it with a newer Nikon, so you can keep using your flash and lenses.

You don't need to open the camera to change the film. The battery door is on the other end. You open the door by inserting the protrusion on the plastic end piece of the strap into the slot of the battery door. It takes a small 3 volt battery.

My needle broke and a piece of metal fell out of machine

Totally happened to me last week. I discovered that the metal piece that fell off and holds the needle has a small screw that holds it in place. It needs an Allen wrench (tiny one) to tighten it back into place. I just lucked into figuring it out.

Stuck in Rewind Mode

Camera is not resetting itself : remove small side pannel by the end that houses back door locking mechanism ( looking from the back it is on the left side ). you will see small slide switch that maybe dislodged . Clean and assamble correctly.
