Question about OKI C5200n Laser Printer

1 Answer

My OKI C5200 no longer recognizes when I insert a piece of paper in the hand-feed tray (and press the spring-secure button) - nothing happens. The printer doesn't see the paper and, instead, draws from the tray below. Removing the tray stops the printer. I need to print business card stock and it needs to be hand fed. What might be the failure? Is there a level that interrupts a light beam, a micro-switch, or what? I am pretty handy, if I can figure out where/what the paper feed sensing device is, I can replace it or work around it. Or is my printer simply ready for the big printer recycler in the sky? I thank anyone who may have come across this problem and may have a suggestion. Regards - Baran

    Thanks for the post -
You lead me to find a Philips screwdriver (the software setting didn't over ride the multi-purpose tray). I found a small printed circuit board with three LED optical interrupt switches on it (two wired like a SPDT switch) that are activated by a paper feed. My take is that one or more of the optical emitters burned out. They are NOHM 574 optical switches, and the board is labeled: 57FF15B6 black characters on yellow backing. The board is all of about 1-1/2" square, and I bet that IT is the source of my woes.

Anyone have a dead C5200 who will sell the optical sensing board in the MPT?

    Thanks - Baran

The problem is in the Property settings of your Printer. It is taking it from the bottom tray when it should be taking it from the upper. You have to change your settings so that it takes it from the upper tray. When you are ready to print, simply click File - Print - Properties and there should be an option in there somewhere for you to choose which tray you want the paper to come from. If this doesn't work, then yes, your printer is ready for recycle heaven. Cheers.

I have a Oki C5500 and I have paper loaded in the printer but it is saying Load letter paper and press online button. But it still does not work.

unless you do alot of prinring Try seting your computer to pull from MP tray. Also check to see if tray is fully inserted in printer to hit paper triger. Sometimes I insert the trat quick and hard and that may solve the problem.

While printing with OKI C5600 very often error message pops up about jammed paper though no REAL jam happened. To solve I just open and close paper tray and front door. JAM PAPER error is real pain if...

Have you tried cleaning the paper feed roller(s)? Either soap & water OR isopropyl alchohol with a cotton ball will do, just make sure the rollers are dry before trying to print again, otherwise damage to imaging unit (drum/toner unit) could occurr. If the printer doesn't feed in the first place, the printer thinks it has a jammed paper, thus opening paper tray and front cover resets misfeed/ jam condition. Let me know your progress....Tim

Print fragmented documnts

Step1
If you're setting up the printer or changing the toner or ink cartridge for the first time, double-check the instructions to make sure that you installed the cartridge correctly and, for new printers, that you have removed all the pieces of cardboard or plastic packing material.
Step
2
Check to see whether paper is feeding from the paper tray. If it's not leaving the tray at all, try feeding a page manually (if that's an option) or using a different paper tray. Sometimes a problem with the tray can be traced to a broken spring or a piece of plastic.
Step
3
If paper is feeding from the tray but jamming in the printer, examine where the jam is occurring and then inspect the printer carefully to see if you can find what is causing the problem. A piece of paper, for instance, might be blocking the paper path.
Step
4
If paper is feeding through the printer but coming out blank, check to see whether the printer is out of toner or ink. A defective toner or ink cartridge could be the problem.
