The reason why the laptop does not boot up because the hard drive is most likelt faulty especially when it makes a clicking noise.
First thing to try is to re-seat the hard drive and boot up the Toshiba, and go into the BIOS configuration and see if the BIOS detects the hard drive, if the BIOS does not detect the hard drive and when you boot up the laptop again and it still makes a clicking sound then the hard drive is definitely faulty and the data on your hard drive is lost.

If you are desperate to recover the data on your faulty hard drive, there companies that can recover data from faulty hard drives BUT it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services.

To get the laptop working again, you need to replace the hard drive install Windows and the device drivers for the hardware devices that are part of your laptop and your programs.

Reinstalled XP after putting in new HD. Delay issues

Is the HDD same as the previous one? I mean the specs. These laptops are very HW specific while desktops are free of any such problems. Moreover, Did you reboot the laptop before and after reinstalling the mouse drivers? please follow the procedure in the link below:

Toshiba laptop cd drive not working

If its not detected in device manager and your laptop has HDD recovery
1 type toshiba application installer in the start search box, press enter
2 in that program choose "install application and drivers", click next
3 it will go to a window where you have the list of all the drivers
4 look for the CDDVD drive, click it to highlight
5 click install

afterwards if its still not detected you probably have a hardware issue and probably the drive itself needs to be replaced

My Toshiba external hard drive powers up but my Toshiba laptop doesn't read it. The blue powr light is on and the rive makes a clicking noise. HELP!

Hello there...

Looks like your HDD is having mechanical problem, this could happen due to a shock (dropped or bumped maybe?) which can cause your HDD I/O head loose from its track.

I'm sorry but my advice is prepare a HDD replacement.

hope that helps... :D

Strange problem. psaf3u-0nr00v Toshiba Satelite A205 not sure if it was dropped or what. I have taken it apart and reseated everything. Upon depressing the power button the blue light for power comes one,...

okay, pull the ram, hard drive and cd/dvd rom out. then power up the unit. see if you get a bios screen. if you do. then good. let it keep going till it says No Operating System Found. it might even beep and tell you Ram has changed press f2 to resume. go ahead. then reseat your ram one stick at a time and continue this process. in the event you reach a spot where you get the reboot issue stop and back up. whatever you added is the problem. if you get everything working correctly and you tap f2 or esc to reach your bios screen and in the bios everything is happy. then the next step is to verify if your hard drive has crashed physically or just has a hiccup in the software. in the bios there should be a hard drive test run it. it may take 2 hrs but thats fine it will let you know if the drive is bad. in the event it passes fine, then boot again and tap f8 till you get to the screen to load into safe mode. if you can get into safe mode good. from there click MY COMPUTER, right click select properties on that. go to tools and select disk check. select both checkboxes and restart your unit. allow it to run and move bad clusters to clean areas. if you are up and running GREAT! if not, you may need to replace the drive and request your Restore disks if you dont already have them

GOOD LUCK!

Toshiba L300 with Launch Startup Repair Recommened on bootup.

If the hard drive is clicking then likely it is dead. I would call toshiba and warranty it. If they say its not under warranty then a hard drive should be no more than about 150 depending on the size

Dropped Toshiba Laptop...

Very good guess. If the computer is turning on and going through POST and it's coming up with that error, then it's the hard drive (hopefully not the platters).
If it makes noise (like clinking or grinding on startup), then you may be done for.
If it makes no noise (not even a hum) then the spindle isn't starting or may be stuck.
If it sounds fine, then it's the platters, and that's something on the microscopic level to fix.

You could google disksavers, they are an expensive company, but they have the correct means to save your data if you really, really, really, want.
Otherwise, if you have nothing to lose, take the hard drive out (usually there are some screws on the bottom which lock the hard drive in, just unscrew and simply pull it out, when the lappy is OFF) and put it into an enclosure (a seperate thing you can pick up for 20 bucks and return later if the hard drive really is bust. You can get them from most places, just make sure to bring your hard drive so they can help you with finding the right connector),
After it's good to go, plug it into another computer.
If you can't read from it (even with the additional power provided by the enclosures power cord(usually usb powered too)) then you can try putting the drive in a ziploc bag, and freezing it in a freezer for about 3 hours. Then try to read from it again (quickly).
If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you mate.
