I have to guess the pressure switch (this is what starts and stops the compressor) is failing or out of adjustment. With time the contacts within a pressure switcha can carbon over. I'd start by adjusting, cleaning or replacing.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

The compressor will not start again until the pressure in the tank drops to whatever your pressure switch is set at.

Air compressor problem

Start valve closes when compressor can create enough volume to close it. Most likely your valves or gaskets are needing service /replacement. After proper pressure /volume is restored, start valve will close. Good luck

How can i fix my ec12 hitachi electric air compressor

This problem is caused by either the starter capacitor or the in-tank check valve. Ez to check. With no air in tank, start compressor; if motor hums or has difficulty suspect capacitor. If motor starts, partially fill tank and unplug the power. Check for air leaking at the pressure switch or air coming out of the air inlet (remove the air filter). If air leaking, replace check valve. If no air leaking, again let out all the from the tank and connect power. Allow the compressor to fill and shut-off. After the compressor fills, again listen for air leaking from the pressure switch unloader valve. If air continues to leak from unloader, replace the check valve. Good luck

Air compressor cannot spin up with pressure in tank sometimes

There is an unloader valve and a check valve on the discharge side of the pump. The check valve is not holding and the unloader is not dumping the pressure so the compressor cannot start. Since it is new, you may want to take it back. If not you are going to be replacing parts.

Cambell Hausfeld model wl506201aj compressor Hums when switched on

This could be caused by one of two things:
- a stuck or broke tank check valve. This would be evident if the compressor starts up when there is no pressure in the tanks but only hums when the tank pressure is up. Some valves can be cleaned and will work for a while but they usually have to be replaced.
- motor start capacitor. If the capacitor is bad it won't get the motor spinning, with or without pressure in the tanks. You can test it by taking the shroud off the pump and carefully bumping the motor to get it turning. Be careful, it may run up to full speed right away. If it runs replace the capacitor, if not you may have a burnt or shorted motor.

Whats happening is the compressor is trying to start with pressure on the head/ compressor. The motor is not strong enough to over come the pressure so the motor tries to run ,may be hum a little and pops the breaker. When you bleed the pressure in the tank down the motor does not have to over come the pressure and starts up as it normally would. Now, your problem is the check valve between the tank and compressor. It needs to be replaced. It is allowing pressure in the tank back to the compressor. Thus the compressor tries to start and can't. Trace the line from the compressor to the tank. You should find the check valve screwed into the tank and the compressor discharge line screwed into the check valve. Remove the compressor discharge line, then remove the check valve. Assemble in reverse . also you can loosen the fitting at the compressor. if it blows air all the time it's the check valve for sure.

My compressor will not start now when i plug it up. I had it started but the air was leaking from the bleed valve and i turn it to the side and after that it won't start.

sounds like a bad check valve,or a bad bleeder .check your reset button ,usually red ,and reset it.start your compressor again.it should start.be sure you didnt trip your breaker first.air is comming out steady from the bleeder when the compressor stop pumping ,replace your check valve.hope this help!

It sounds like the compressor is trying to start under load because there is a tightness in the pump itself or there is high pressure air in the line between the pump and tank There is a small valve that releases the pressure out of the main pipe that runs between the compressor and tank once the tank is full and the motor automatically cuts off. You know this valve is working by the sound of a short spurt if air being released when the motor cuts off. Releasing this pressure means that the motor is able to restart easily because there is no load. If the valve is not releasing this air, the compressor is trying to start under full load which the motor is not capable of doing, hence the slow running, overheating and popping of breakers due to a current overload as the motor tries to run up to normal peed. Motor burnout is possible if it keeps recurring.

This small release valve is attached to the Pressure control switch that switches the motor On & Off and usually has a small pipe going to it or is incorporated inside the Pressure Control Switch. If the valve appears to be working then it means that the Non-return valve on the input to the tank is not sealing properly and letting air back into the main pipe causing the compressor to start under load. Check both valves for correct operation and replace as necessary.

If all the air side checks out OK the check for low oil level and / or binding in the air pump main drive shaft.

DeWalt emglo compressor does not start

hello,
well, you have to release the pressure, the cut out pressure at 120 psig.reached, and the cut in pressure maybe at 40 psig.so after realeasing pressure at cut in the compressor will run.if the compressor not run at cut in or after releasing check your power supply if still have, swicth off power breaker,by pass pressure switch,by disconnecting the line on terminals of pressure swtich, connect the line w/out pressure switch
the wire line should supply the the compressor,
open the service valve of compressor, switch on
observe if compressor run and develop pressure or air is coming out to nozzle,if that so switch off again and replace pressur switch.you have defective pressure switch, regards rate me,thanks
