Dell Inspiron 8100 Motherboard Problem?

I recently took apart a old dell inpiron 8100 and I accidentally damaged the fan cables so the fans don't work. I disconnected them and tried to boot. (WITH NO FANS) All the lights come on for a few seconds, but no image on the screen, then shuts off promptly. No POST, it just shuts down.
I've tried:
Looking for ''dry'' connections
Shorts
Damaged traces
Ram
Processor
but alas, no hope.
Can anyone help me?

-Thanks, SuperNerd

This model (as well as many other Dell desktops) has a DUAL SPEED CPU fan. If the motherboard detects that the CPU temp is running hot it will increase the speed of the CPU fan to lower the temp of the CPU. You should do a Google search for the correct CPU fan and purchase it and install it back into your computer.

There is a circuit on the motherboard that detects the ambient temperature of your computer. Your CPU fan has 2 speeds - if it detects the temperature inside your desktop getting hot, it will switch the CPU fan to hi-speed. If you removed the memory and powered on the computer and don't hear any Beep codes then you probably have a problem with the the motherboard and it needs to be replaced. disconnect cables to CD/DVDdrives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

I recently took apart my Dell Inspiron E1505 to clean the fan and now it will turn on but has distress lights type flashing on the top of the keyboard. Will not boot. Will not turn screen on. Please help.

Look at your memory again. There are two slots for memory. Make sure that the memory chip you have (if you only have one) is in tha A slot and not the B slot. Otherwise, remove and reseat all of your memory if you have both slots full. This should fix it for you.

My dell inspiron 1525 wont open. Im sure that the power cable is working. Before, everytime I use it, it is too hot as if the fan isnt working at all. I dont know if some capacitors are burned already.

This laptop is fairly easy to check for overheating causes.
Remove the large cover from the back of the laptop to reveal the CPU and heatsink fan. Clean the area around the fan and heatsink. Power the laptop on and see if the fan moves ( also see that the 3 pin connector that connects the fan to the motherboard is plugged in).

Check for blown capacitors, burning around the components and signs of overheating on the board area that you can see. You could try replacing the CPU chip in case it has burned out, however, I rather suspect that the overheating has damaged another component on the motherboard and a replacement motherboard is required

Great!

I've been bitten by that, especially on Dell laptop.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.

Can I replace Dell Inspiron 8000 monitor w/ Inspiron 8100 monitor

If you're a non-techie, I would send it in to Dell and have them fix it. Youo could brick the thing if you don't know what you're doing.

Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop cooling fans

All fans for cooling cpu plug into a small 2 or 3 pin socket usually white on the motherboard near to the heatsink your fan should have the lead coming from it
fans for video card sometimes takes the power from card or connect to board same as cpu fan but near video card

Screen comes on and after about 5 min. it goes off the computer is still on.

To narrow down the problem area, connect the laptop to an external monitor, if everything works properly, then you have a bad screen. If it does the same, then you have a failing motherboard component that is causing the shutdown.
