Batteries are great at corroding the connections with a hard coating. Disconnect the cables and scrape the connection surfaces to get a shiny surface and reconnect.

Replacing a MTD spindle assembly

Yes, most spindles come with non threaded holes. The metal is soft and you can just use regular bolts. Once you start them, they cut their own threads.

MTD 13hp lawn tractor . Belt problem

If you have the manual look and see if you are missing a spring on an idler. They sometimes break or get weak. Next how old is the belt because they will stretch. If you have a little play in the belt I would say it is stretched. If a lot of play then you are probably looking at a spring that is bad.

Can you point me to the wiring diagram for the above mower

The flywheel black (negative) and red (positive) wires are the magneto output. Red goes to ignition to charge the battery, and also burn the headlights -- so the red will go to the headlight switch as well, maybe through the ignition.

There should be an in-line fuse on the charging/headlight wire coming from the magneto.

There should be a safety switch under the seat which energizes the fuel cutoff solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor.

There are also interlock switches on blade engage mechanism, and the brake pedal, These prevent engine from starting if brake is not applied or if blades are engaged -- these would control current to the ignition module.

This is not complete, but it'll give you some clues -- good luck -- it's a ton of work.
