Question about Canon XH A1 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

For some reason when I record for someone and give them the tape, they cant watch it or see what we shot on their tape deck or camera. Its only viewable on my camera. Is there a setting I need to change on my camera so people can watch their tapes on any deck without just using my camera?

Look like you filming RAW instead of a format witch there Tape deck reconises. YES you can change the output on the tape in the settings of your camera. You did not provide a model number nor anything else for me to show you what setting it would be hard for me to assume.

So you camera is set on RAW format I would take it in to a camera shop for them to help you with the settings on it.

Thanks

HDV is a format for recording and playback of high-definition video on a DV cassette tape. The format was originally developed by JVC and was supported by Sony, Canon and Sharp

You need to make sure you others support this resolution and raw format if they do not it will not work you will then have to have the cassette converted into another language these other devices understand I feel this is what is the issue in your case ask anyone at a camera shop and come back here and rate me.

While your there ask them how you can put this into the format where all can understand..

    Thanks

Will not record or play

You might need to replace the whole tape deck or the recording heads as they do intend to wear out after a while.

Playback options

If I were you I would get that side repaired for the following reasons 1) the wear on the record head is the same on the B whether you record or play 2) the gap is a compromise if it is a record/play head and for play back only the quality is better albeit only seen on instruments . 3) Cassette machines will be very dear and scarce as the factories appeared to have stopped making them. If you have the quantity as I have then if your record side's head is more of value as you cannot record on the head 4) Is your recording side a "3 head " unit giving you "off the tape" recording capability.5) You loose the ability to do trick recording by adding voice with music
This is the reasons for the time being If it is the unit in your pic then it was a very expensive unit

Bypass the reciever. Just mixer to tape deck. You will get a better recording anyways!

Panasonic HVX200 will not play back tape

Your playback heads might be clogged. I am not sure if this camera with give you a RF warning if your record heads get clogged. Also most professional machines drums are rated at 1000 - 1500 hours before they need to be replaced. If you are at 500 and never cleaned the heads it is time to. Run a cleaning tape a few times.

When I try to play PAL tapes, there is no picture

You also need a PAL television or monitor to be able to view them. If you don't have a PAL compatible monitor or TV it will not work because the resolution and scanning is very different than an NTSC monitor. Your canon camera is probably designed only for NTSC use if it was sold in North America and can't be used for PAL use.

Connection between CD, EQ, SP technics

Each unit (the EQ and the Processor) should have left/right in/out rca jacks as well as L/R tape in/outs. The EQ or processor use the receiver's tape loop and then provide a tape loop to replace the one they've used on the receiver.

You plug the first unit (let's say the Sound Processor into your receiver/amp as if it were a tape deck (Processor's outs connect to reciever's tape ins (play) while the Processor's ins connect to the receiver's tape outs (record).

Then you chain the EQ off the Processor in the same way (EQ outs connect to Processor's tape ins (play) and EQ ins connect to the Processor's tape outs (record).

Last you connect the tape deck to the EQ as follows. Tape deck outs connect to EQ's tape ins (play) and the tape deck ins connect to the EQ's outs (record).

This will put both the Sound Processor and the EQ in the receiver's tape loop. In order to have all the receiver's source signals routed through them you may have to engage a Tape Monitor switch or button somwhere on your amp which will route the tape loop to your speakers.

Problem with deck B on Pioneer CT-W205R

Better tape decks, like Pioneer, may use a different mechanism for record/play than FF & REW. So it sounds like a belt or mechanical link for the REC/PLAY has failed.
