Installed every driver for sound from HP webite, still no sound. It has integrated audio (Soundmax) and has always worked fine but recently stopped. I checked for viruses, repaired registry also....

The integrated audio could be defective in your motherboard. Another reason is that your computer is trying to use old devices or devices your installed on your computer that are not compatible. Click on your volume icon (right click) and go to playback devices. Make sure the correct device is selected.

No sounds

Isn't your sound muted? Please check your volume buttons. Please check if your speakers are connected and have power.
if nothing works, you could always try to download some new software from here: http://download.cnet.com/SoundMAX-Integrated-Digital-HD-Audio/3000-2110_4-146407.html

The driver you installed is not WHQL
which means you require to use the Driver Update options on Device Manager.

If your using Windows XP -
Right Click on My Computer and PROPERTIES
---
Open Device Manager
--
Scan for hardware Changes by Right Clicking on the Computer Icon at the top of the collapsible list
--
If the Audio or Multimedia Controller is greyed or has exclamation or question mark.
then its not properly installed
--
Update or Install the drivers.
--
Soundmax Drivers should be somewhere on your C:
since not all driver packages are WHQL .. they dont integrate with the system quickly.
--
It should start INSTALLING ..

Can't configure audio on my new Asus P5QL motherboard

There should've been something on your ASUS CD that included the SoundMax driver. Without that you won't get audio. You might need to reinstall your CD again making sure you have installed the Soundmax driver. If you can't find it, look for Soundmax on the Internet. If the Soundmax card is properly installed you will see a little blue square on your bottom right task bar. If you click on the little arrow, you can adjust the sound volume. It also contains a wizard to help you diagnose problems.

Oh, you will need to make sure your virus programs are turned off before installing that program as well.

No soundmax audio present.

I need to ask. Do you have two speakers showing? One fat red one and one gray one as you usually see on computers everywhere?
Try this either way.
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Volume Control and make sure you don't have a check mark in your Master Volume control found on the far left.
Are you using a Desktop or laptop?
