My Canon PIXMA MX310 All-In-One prints faded, border less photos

I have a PIXMA MX310 Office All-In-One. When I print color photos with a standard border from my iMac computer (Mac OSX Snow Leopard O/S) my printouts are fine. But when I print border less photos, the printouts are faded and washed out. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Thank you for the prompt response.

All or most all the photos that led to my first comment were processed through iPhoto. I just scanned and printed a color photo from the Users folder in Macintosh HD. I did not use iPhoto. The results were the same. The print with the borders was clear as a bell. The border less print was once again faded and washed out.

This sounds like a driver/software issue. I would uninstall the drivers and software for the printer and reinstall.

Also, take the ink cartridges out and clean them with a little bit of alcohol. Be careful not to use too much alcohol, I prefer the little hand wipeys. The cartridges have a little chip on the bottom of them that basically program the memory of the printer. If these are damaged or dirty, this could be the problem.

Hi there Jzoller,

From what application are you printing those images or photos? It could be a setting from that application and not from the printer. Have you tried testing by creating a new document from another application and print it from there? Also, make sure that before you hit "Print", check on the settings, as it may be set to print into grayscale.

Please let me know of your thoughts and comments. Thank you.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP250, and it's printing black and faded lines alternatively. (one line black, one line faded black...), sometimes involve blue too.. Anyone can help?

First, are you running low on those ink colors? If not, possibly print cartridges need cleaning. If printer has separate print heads, they made need cleaning.
Lastly, print head(s) may need replacement.

Pixma mx330 printing very faded colors

try selecting higher print quality setting. If it still prints faded on "standard" or "high" quality, try running the "printhead clean" or "deep clean" utility (under "maintenance" in printer properties).
If still no good, refill or replace cartridge(s).

good luck with it

Uneven color on photo prints.

You need to clean your print cartridges.

Go to servicing the device in printing preferences or settings.

It should print a test page and your prints should be fine.

A faint line shows up down the middle of the page, when printing a photo

from cnet review of the product

  • Unfortunately, as with the Z1420, fast print speeds come at the cost of print quality with the Z1300. Black text prints, though nicely dark, were beset by obvious jaggedness. The color graphics print had a slightly faded look to it and color blocks showed graininess and faint horizontal striations. Barcode-style patterns were muddled, too. For our tests, we printed color 4x6 photos with the standard black and tricolor cartridges, as Lexmark did not include photo ink tanks with the test unit. The colors were dull, details were hazy, and again, the entire print was marred by graininess and faint horizontal lines. That said, nobody buys a $25 printer to print photos for framing or to create displays for a classroom science project. A $25 printer is a convenience item for occasional reference prints, and as such, the Z1300 does its job.

Color photos printing very faded

Some nozzles could be burned out on the printhead, and you need to make sure you have no photo inks installed where regular inks should be. Photo magenta prints much lighter than regular magenta.
