If the system is only 6 months old, then it should be under warranty (Minimum warranty at Dell is 1 year) So contact technical support and let them assist you in finding the failure (800 624 9896 USA)

Depending on the Troubleshooting, normally replacing the AC adapter is the 1st option (No on site tech required) If the replacement adapter doesn't resolve, then they normally replace the motherboard.

Your problem has not gone unknown, you and probably a few hundread dell customers are having thes same issue and it happans right around their waranty expiration period. intresting enough apears to be a flaw on the physical motherbaords power adapter location, although it dosnt seem to be that serious from my inspection of simaller models. they complainbts show it is a flaw and dell shuld stand behoind this. have a read at this site if you have the time

http://getsatisfaction.com/dell/topics/invalid_ac_adaptor_reported_battery_not_charging_insirion_1520

once you have varified the problem might be good idea to click the i have the same problem link to help others with the issue. the more people who bcome aware then faster dell will correct or issue a recall for the problem baords. maby eavn replace your whole laptop at little or no cost to you ;). the fact is that theirs several issues with laptop batteries charging, some seem to be the wrong type of crapy oem charge controllers. a good idea is to get a replacement power supply from credited and superior source for power protection. and maby you wont be a statistic with the rest of the failed mother boards. please see this link when you have some time .

once thing i saw bellow is a power adapter not oem that will protect your laptop from spike issues and power fluctuations at least better then the oem one.

$19.99 to protect a 1,200 dollar laptop sounds like a good investment. but keeping in mind its only an option. if i was selecting one id look for good protection and circuit monitoring. this is an example of that. and will eliminate the other issues your having.

Input: AC100-240V (worldwide use)
Output: DC 19.5V 4.62A
Power: 90W

good luck with it. note: the power in watts can be higher then your old one this is actually a good thing. but you cannot be lower in amp. then the required amount. this is up to you to verify the laptops power parameters but this should work out of box for you, as it;s made for your laptop exclusively ;)

Why did my 2007 Grand Prix give me a "Charging System error?"

Did you get an OBD code? The OBD error code would give you a better idea as to what is wrong. your question alone is insufficient information to give you an informed reply. It could be one of several things to deal with. Get yourself a cheap $50. scanner at your local Autoparts. This will give you the error code. You can look at the following page http://obdii.pro/en/model/honda to find the code numbers relevant to your situation. just scroll down and highlight and click on your specific type of vehicle and search and choose the error code that you got- to get more information about your vehicles malfunction(s)

APC XS 1300 getting A04 error code. Pulled battery and reinserted plugged unit back in and it seems to be working fine now. But for how long?

Good that you got it working. How old is it? Warranty? What does the error code mean? If it is a charging error, the charging system may have a problem. Talk to customer service or email. They like to know how their products are doing. I would guess there is a battery charge level meter via their software and a USB cable connection? If so, keep watching It should give you early warning of battery failure. Or better yet, create your own "controlled" power failure and see how long the battery supports system power. Otherwise, take the battery to battery store. They can test it for you and tell you condition status.

if it is the original stuff used...and nothing is changed..then try to install the battery driver so that it will be able to recognize the charger ..o r...you will have to get a new battery cause this one might be dead!..(you may take in counting a bad contact ...but if the battery works by itself when it does charge...it means that its not a contact problem ..but just a new battery needed...)

That error code is indicative of a primary battery permanent failure. There may be a connector problem but not likely. Your best bet is to replace the battery.

If you are uncertain, try finding someone in your vicinity with the same type of laptop as yours and ask if you could test their battery on your computer.

leave it switched off and plugged in.

This would give it chance to actually charge as using it from dead with it plugged in does not always allow some GPS to charge properly.

You neglected to say which brand so its hard to give a 100% answer.

Most GPS should have enough charge withing 4 hours but from dead some older units require anywhere up to 18 hours according to some of the manuals i have laying around
