Eureka Boss 4D (5892BVZ) - Switch Replacement & Fried Wires

I have a Eureka Boss 4D (5892BVZ). The switch burned out frying the wires in the handle. Can I fix this myself? What parts would I need? How would I go about doing the repair? I was able to take the handle apart easily, but I do not know how to go about replacing the switch or if I would need to replace the switch, the cord, the wires. All the wires around the switch are frayed or fried, but the wires beyond that point look fine. Thanks.

I was able to order the part (the whole handle assembly) through Chris at govacuum.com The part number I got was 74074-2. It was amazingly easy to change the part - so far it's working quite well. They emailed me the parts diagram as well. Thought about contacting Eureka since it seems like they have a design flaw, but from all the other comments I saw about how un-helpful they were, I decided to save myself the aggravation - even though I'm frustrated I had to pay to fix something that should not break.

If you got the handle apart, Id say you can probably fix it yourself. You might be able to patch it but I would say to maximize your effortrs please visit RepairClinic.com to find the exact replacement parts you need. They also have expert advice and guidance available.

I hope this works for you.

Had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871.

Changed the switch and/or handle assembly several times as described. When parts were no longer available, I had this rewired with heavier gauge wire. Problem solved.

The switch is replaceable, so you don't need to replace the complete handle assembly. I've got a 3500 that I replaced the switch on and it works great now. You can get a new switch at the local Aerus Electrolux store. To find the nearest store, just follow the directions on the below site.
I do recommend letting the service tech do the replacement.

Spin brushes wont spin and the switch wont turn machine off. I have to unplug it.

for the spin brushes it is most likely the motor is fried if you smell something burning it could be jammed or the wires have be shaken off the motor terminals. for it not turning off you need a new switch.

Will not start ...I get a momentary flicker of power about every 3rd or 4th time that I flick on the power switch. Outlet is fine / Plug looks good / cord looks good / I see no obstructions ........Would appreciate any helpful thoughts ....Trying to get Mom's Eureka 2961AVZ back up and running. Thanks

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. It sounds to me that you may have a bad switch or the worst scenario would be a bad motor and or armature, and the armature is almost the cost of the new motor, so I would replace the motor, but check the switch and the cord because sometimes the cord looks good but there might be broken wires inside the cord that you can’t see. If the vacuum is less than one year old the motor would be covered under the factory warranty if one year and maybe the switch as well. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
