Hi,

Hot water, oils, organics and oxidizing agents reacting, and fast moving water are the real reasons.
Yes, twits who don't rinse out their suit after a wash can do it as well.

Nice Article to How to Avoid Foaming :-

  1. Refrain from using sticky hair care products like hair spray, mousses or gels if you know you'll be hopping into the hot tub. If your hair gets wait while you're in your home spa, your hair products may get into the water and produce foam. Wear hair in a pony tail or tuck it under a shower cap while in the hot tub.
  2. Step 2 Skip the moisturizing lotion if you're planning on hot tubbing. Any lotion that has not been absorbed by your skin will come off in the water and create a foamy effect. Moisturize after you have finished with your soak.
  3. Step 3 Lighten up on your underarm deodorant or skip it altogether before you take a dip. Deodorant is a common contaminant in swimming pool and hot tubs.
  4. Step 4 Wash your swim suit without laundry detergent if you find your hot tub is foaming. Traces of detergent that have not been adequately rinsed off your suit will cause hot tub foaming. Either hand-wash your swim suit with plain water or run it through your washing machine without adding soap.
  5. Step 5 Be careful not to spill food and beverages while you are in the hot tub. Almost any type of solid matter that dissolves in a hot tub will foam, as well as many liquids. Consider setting up a buffet table near the hot tub so your guests can enjoy a snack before coming in the water.
  6. Step 6 Add a commercial de-foaming agent that is used in pool, hot tub and spa maintenance. De-foaming chemicals are available at stores that sell hot tubs and many home improvement warehouses.
Hope i helped you.

There is air being introduced into the system through a cracked/separated joint, or leaky hose.... or even the pump shaft seal. It will need to be pressure tested to find out where the leak is. Thanks for using FixYa!!

We can't get our hot tub to heat. The heater light comes on but the heater still won't heat.

heating elements are resistors that get hot
one end will have 115 volts but the other end should be considerable less because the resistance of the heating element drops the voltage
if you used a ohm meter you should be reading a resistance of 500-1000 ohms for a good heater element but with your readings , there will be no resistance so the element is faulty

I have water leaking out of left hand corner of water fall and steps going into hot tub i think it is leaking only when pump is on

Sounds like maybe the clamps have given way on your water fall return line and maybe your ozonator return. You will unfortunately have to take down the wall to get access. Check all of your unions and make sure they are tight, and then look for pools of water to show where the leaks are. If your completely insulated with spray foam look for saturation that will lead you to your leak. Once you fix the leak make sure to spray foam over your repair. How To Fix Leaking Hot Tub

I have a floater for my hot tub and add approx. 2 little pucks as required, yet when I take my readings it shows no chlorine present at all!

Do you smell the chlorine on the puck itself or actually coming from the hot water? If you have to put your nose up to it it sounds like the puck isn't dissolving enough in the water (maybe they put too much binder in the manufacturing mix). You know you can use regular household bleach to put chlorine in there. Put a couple of cups in the tub and take a reading. That bleach is a lot cheaper than the powder or the pucks and works just as well

My saltwater system produces chlorine but disappears fast

first of all your problem is a few things combined.
First lets learn what consumes chlorine
Heat, sun, rain, sun tan oil 3 of swimmers

you may need to run your generator 12 hours some nights it all depends on what kind of day it was and what the chlorine was to start with

Also if you do not have your salt as close to 3000ppm as you can then you are also not generating enough chlorine even if you are not triggering an alarm for low salt

you can not be below 2800 and no higher than 3800ppm
a test kit is available get the strips that reads #'s not the color strips for salt reading

Also you should be using a chlorine stabilizer to help hold the chlorine level this is only a help situation. it will not completly remidy your chlorine level going low if all the elements I mentioned are happening at the same time

Also be carefull not using the pool that is the worst thing you can do. You may go green quick without people in it stiring it up

I also recommend you use a non foaming algaecide every 5-7 days just follow directions for your gallons of water

By the way bromine tests are really not for pools they are designed to work with the hot water and chlorine level of a hot tub
your ph is fine, about in the middle alkalinity is what drives your ph so worry about the ph level and chlorine and you are good to go

Foam in hot tub cover broke

The foam in there is available at most insulation or drywall supply houses. It is used for insulating concrete walls, the cover is probably 3 inches thick so you may have to buy 2 sheets to get the thickness you want. The only issue is the cost of the foam may not be much less than a new cover.
