Question about Yard Machines Red Edger

The belt keeps coming off, the pulleys seem to be in good shape, the belt doesn't look that bad. It been stored for a couple of years.As soon as I put it the ground the belt comes off. Need HELP. MIKE

Keeps braking belts


Check for a straight line of sight alignment of the belt running across the different pulleys of the engine and also check for any pulley that doesn't spin freely. The common problem is a seized up AC compressor clutch pulley on this car and most others as well. If you can't figure it out see a trained professional; for help.

Air compressor noise


Make sure all your belts are tight and in good shape. If the inside surface on the belt is shiny and not dull it has been running loose and is "polished". If this is the case replace the belt. If that is not an option for you try some belt dressing or the old standby, use bar soap and coat the inside of the belt. If this doesn't help you may have a bad pulley on the compressor itself. If the air works you either live with the noise or replace the pulley,

The belt keeps making a squeeking noise it sounds like the belt drive.. what can i do to stop that noise??


Check to make sure the belt is not loose. While you're checking the belt make sure that the belt is in good shape. Replace the belt if it has nicks or cracks.
The belt may be glazed (belt develops a hard glaze from age, dirt/oil hardening) and slipping. Try spraying 'belt dressing' on the belt. 'Belt Dressing' can be found at your local auto parts store. Ask the counterperson for it.
There could be another reason for the squeeking. One of the pulleys may have bearings going out and the unit may have to be replaced.

Im keep going through water pumps, 3 water pumps in 40,000 miles seems alot. someone said could be a bad head gasket but it doesn't smoke or use anti freeze


Yes its a lot of pumps. Who is doing the changing of the pump? I would suspect the belt is way too tight and wearing out the bearing. The belt should be firm but not taut as a bow string. there should be about 1 inch of sideways play, inline with pulleys, at the longest section of belt.
Other thing to check is pulley alignment. Do your belts squeak a lot? Are the pulleys lined up well or is the belt trying to pull the pump pully away from its location?

Did you get all pumps from same place? It is just barely possible that there was a bad batch made. Ask at parts store if any others complain of similar issue. Have they gave you the right type of pump.?

Alternator and battery is good but the battery light keeps coming on for a mos. now.


what shape is belt that drives alternator in? if it's glazed (smooth) it could be slipping through pulley not turning alternator fast enough. I'd replace belt for peace of mind then have local parts store like Autozone, Advance, etc.. do a FREE charging system test and a FREE load test on your battery.

How to replace the alternator in a F250,4x4deisel,XLT,Lariat,2006


The alternator should be right up on top. First, have to take the serpentine belt off, just slide it off of the idler pulley (Keep your hands AWAY from it, the idler pulley will slam down with enough force to hurt badly.) I suggest a crowbar here, you'll need it again later. From there, just unbolt the alternator from the engine block, should be two long bolts with two nuts at the end. There should be two wires, with one coupling to take them off, take it off. Pull it, go take it to a GOOD repair shop, one that will hopefully sell you a new, not reman, alternator. Get a new one, put those bolts back in, put the wiring coupling back on, and now comes the hard part: Loop the serpentine belt back around, and get it ready to go under the idler pulley. Pull the idler pulley back with the crowbar, position (NOT DIRECTLY! Keep your hands AWAY from this pulley!) the belt under the idler pulley, and ease it down onto the belt. Could take a few runs to get that last part down.

Drive belt comes as soon as mower is put in gear


If the belt comes off that soon You have a pully that is going out already, bad, or the belt guides are missing or badly bent out of shape. Check to see if any pulleys may be comming apart.

1.5 year old mower keeps eating drive belts. have two mowers like this. The pulleys look to be in good shape. is there a problem with the tension spring on these mowers?


1) bad pulley
2) bad pulley bearings or spindle
3) out of alignment
Mower to new to be having this problem
My guess bad bearing.

Drive belt comes off the rear pulley.


Hi, this is a easy solution. on your drive pulley, there should be three belt keepers to keep the belt from coming off. ( belt keeper is a 1/4" dia. rod that goes over the pulley)
