Problem during assembly in reverse order on Canon SD300 (Ixus40)

Impossible to close the lens of my Canon digital camera SD300 (Ixus40). I followed the solution #3 posted on Apr 09, 2006 by Silly girl ( But at last step "The assembly of the camera takes place in reverse order" I don't remember the good position of the 3 rings between them (lens units). Please help me. Thank you.

Not quite sure where you are having the problem with your camera, but there are several places on the internet that can help fix your camera and/or lens.

Here is one listing I found on eBay for you -
You can email him your model number and he should be able to help you.
Best of luck!

Date display in photos in IXUS40

here is the solution:
The date and time can be included on the pictures taken only with the camera in postcard mode. You must also activate the date stamp option in the menu.
To set the camera into postcard mode, press the [Func.] button on the camera, then use the [arrow down] key to go down to the last option in the menu, and there you can choose the [Postcard mode]. Press [Func.] again to exit the function menu.
To set the date and time stamp, press the [Menu] button and then use the [arrow down] button to go to the [Date stamp] option in the menu. You can set this to "Date" or "Date & Time". Press the [Menu] button again to exit the menu.

E18 error on Canon ixus40 - lens stuck

The E18 error is an error message on Canon digital cameras. The E18 error occurs when anything prevents the zoom lens from properly extending or retracting.[1] The error has become notorious in the Canon user community as it can completely disable the camera, requiring expensive repairs.
A quick internet search for "E18" + "canon" quickly reveals hundreds of similar complaints. reports that the "lens has a feature called bellows claw, which is a gear that physically extends and retracts the lens. A piece that holds the lens, the barrier plate, is not large enough and can sometimes cause the bellows claw to malfunction, resulting in a stuck lens". The result is a black screen that only contains the error message, E18. Another problem mentioned on the site blames a sticky iris in the lens, caused by grease entering inside from the microphones built into the lens. The buildup freezes up the ability of the lens to open.

Lens is jamed

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

Canon IXUS40, rubber(?) seal between lens rings & body keeps popping out

It can be replaced, but requires removing the front face of the camera. Here's an example disassembly. Proceed no further than removing the front face to install the seal:

Not sure where you could find a replacement other than from another (broken) camera. The seal is mainly intended to minimize sand and grit from entering the camera, but is not necessary for operation of the camera.

SD Card capacity and make problem with IXUS40/SD300

Basally, you are not limited with the SD card capacity. It is an "economic" decision only. Sandisk is one of the best companies for it.
