SOURCE: starter rope will not pull. Will pull smoothly

If I understand what you are saying... The starter pulls smoothly with the starter cover removed or when installed and the plug removed (no compression or spark). If this is correct I think your saw's timing has slipped or maybe a defective decomp valve. Time to visit your neighborhood chainsaw seller/mechanic.HTH

Weak spark at spark plug

You should get a spark that will jump 3/16". Anything smaller will most likely be insufficient.

Intermittent and weak spark

Is the new ignition module gapped right? Are you using a spark tester or just trying to hold it to the cylinder while pulling the rope? If the module sparks then it most likely is not a spark issue. Make sure you have fuel to the cylinder and that the compression in the saw is good. The easiest way to test a fuel delivery issue is to pour a Small amount of fuel right in to the carburetor and try to start it. It should run on the fuel you put in then die if it has a fuel issue.

Pull rope will not pull

Remove recoil rope assembly. Ensure rope is properly wrapped around. While recoil assembly is removed use ratchet and socket to rotate fly wheel, remove spark plug first, observe compression and exhaust at spark plug whole during rotation of fly wheel. Clean or replace spark plug. Ensure oil is full. 30w. Set spark plug gap. Always use Stabile in gas. Replace coil rope is required. Purchased by the foot at any mower repair store.

Homelite chain saw XL925 cord pull too hard but if you remove the spark plug then it pulls OK.

I have a Homelite XL and was having problems with rope pulling from difficult to unable to pull rope while trying to start saw. I removed the muffler, squirted some WD40 through the exhaust port ABOVE and BELOW the piston compression ring. Then pulled the rope about 20 times without spark plug to fully lubricate the piston and cylinder. Left it till the next day, pulled it through about 20 more times, put the spark plug back in,and it works well now. Guess it was just gummed-up a little and the lubrication freed it.

Saw feels like it,s out of timing, pull rope hard to pull with plug in.. pulls easy plug out maybe trying to fire to fast

Check the air cleaner for plugging. Remove the spark plug, open the throttle with the choke off, turn the machine upside down and pull it through smartly several times until the excess fuel is expelled. Dry the spark plug interior insulator and test for spark--it should be blue and snappy (plug gapped 0.020"). If weak looking, try a new plug first, and if still weak, remove the left engine case to expose the flywheel and ignition module. Turn the flywheel magnets under the module poles, insert a thin business card into the gaps, loosen the module screws to allow the module to contact the magnets. Tighten the screws and turn the flywheel somewhat to release the card. Turn the flywheel one full turn to make sure the module gap doesn't close up at any point. Reassemble and test again for spark. If now good, try for engine start. Hope this helps!

Lawn mower won't start

to check for firing remove the spark plug insert it in the plug boot and pull the rope while watching to see if the plug sparks be carefull not to touch the plug electrode while pulling the rope or it will shock you. If you don't have a spark, try a different plug. If still no spark the coil could be bad.

Petrol Engine will not start. The saw is a Stilh and I have not usaed it for 18 months

Ok first off drain all fuel out of the saw replace the fuel tank filter, then clean out the air cleaner, pull the spark plug out and with some and paper sand the spark plug so that it's clean. NEXT mix some new gas mix and add to the tank try putting the choke on full and pull rope about a dozen times then put choke in partial open and try starting. If it does not start pull spark plug and pull starter rope and see if you have spark if you do add a capfull of gas mix into the spark plug hole and tighten the spark plug down and try pull starting if it fires off and dies then you have a cracked fuel line and need to replace the fuel line. When you have the plug out spray a small amount of WD 40 into the sparkplug hole and pull the rope a few times to get rings lubracated then add the gas. If it won't start post here and I will give you more directions to test for starting again. HOPE THIS HELPS AND THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA.
