Leaks From Filter Gasket

My Domus Due is about two years old and used a couple times a week. Recently it started leaking from where the filter basket mounts on the machine. everything works fine as long as there's no coffee in the basket.

I have the same issue, however, it appears the hard plastic brown seal in cracked in my brew head. Is this replaceable/repairable?

Sounds like you might have coffee oil build up. I would suggest soaking the Brew Head Screen and filter holder in a coffee oil remover by www.urnex.com or dezcal. Remove the screw if your filter basket has one. For home use it would be good to clean this every week or so. You can email me for more info: irene@smithagy.net. You also might just try purchasing a new filter basket (along with cleaning the Brew head screen and new basket).

My filter was clogged, and worked even better after disassembling the filter, and making sure the little rubber piece was not stopped up. There are two tiny holes in that piece, and I used a paperclip to clean them.

(the water seemed to have been backing up and overflowing since it could not push through the filter.)

Oil leak at filter

If it's at the filter replace the filter. If it's at the mount/engine side replace the seal/gasket. The filter bracket is taken off by removing the filter. The screw that the filter goes on has a nut built on it. remove it to remove the bracket. If it is a seal get a new one and add some silicone. If it is a gasket, clean it off, just use silicone.

Make sure the mating surface is clean, next lube the gasket in the oil filter with some fresh oil using your finger. Tighten 1 1/2 turns after gasket contacts. If this doesn't work it might not be the filter that's the problem...

Leaking oil around the oil filter. is there a special filter to use on this car? I bought it used and it didn't start leaking until i changed the oil myself. and it only leaks when it is running

Oh, one should make sure that the old rubber gasket didn't get stuck on the engine block where the filter is. Sometimes, people change their own oil and don't look at the old filter they took off, to see if the gasket came off and stuck to the engine block.

In that case, the new filter has a gasket, and the old gasket is stuck to the block, and you have two gaskets stuck together, which will leak.

This is a common mistake to happen on any car.

Good luck on this repair.

I hear air sounds in the top of my filter how do I get the air out?

It should eventually purge just by running. If it continues, you could have a suction leak in your piping. Check drain plugs in pump. Check strainer basket cover and gasket for leaks. Check any control valves for leaks, Check the multiport valves for leaks. If the basket was ever out of the pump, some item may be bouncing around inside also.

Driving home from work I started to smell and see smoke in cab

If you have recently changed or had the oil changed I would suspect a bad filter or the old oil filter gasket still on the filter boss and a new filter with an additional gasket installed on top of the old gasket. Usually in a short time the old filter gasket will blow out causing a massive oil leak. To locate the leak fill the engine back to the full mark with oil and start it and look for the leak.

Are you using the pressurized filter baskets? My 2 1/2-year-old SL70 recently started doing the same thing, and I think I have narrowed the problem down to the filter basket (it works fine with a non-pressurized basket). I've ordered a new pressurized basket. I can't guarantee that this is the answer, but you might try it.

Possibly, if it is leaking from the bottom only, and if you have a Domus Due model, you might just need a new water reservoir as the water reservoirs are a different system than all of the other briel machines and a new reservoir will usually fix the problem of leaking on the bottom in the Domus Due machines. Something with the seal on the reservoir.
You can order just a water reservoir by contacting the service center at:

If your machine is leaking over the filter handle, brew head etc, that could be the coffee oils have built up in the Brew Head Screen and/or filter basket itself. For that, remove the Brew Head Screen and soak along with the Filter Basket in a coffee oil remover (not descaler) you can get the Cafiza powder at www.urnex.com or any other brand and then use a brush to clean it after soaking. If you have the Briel filter basket with a screw in the middle, please remove the screw and clean in there as it tends to get clogged. Then just be sure not to screw it too tight again as this can cause leaking.
I hope the info was helpful.
