Hi,
This could take a little time to explain if my initial thoughts are correct and you maybe in for the long haul, but first of all i need to know if the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS. To enter the BIOS restart the laptop and repeatedly tap the F2 key. On the first page of the BIOS you should see information on the hard drive, a slave hard drive (if there is one) and the CD/DVD drive. See if it's there and post back for more advive

Can you also tell me if your laptop has an AMD or Intel processor?

Sorry your laptop should be AMD.

If the drive is seen in the BIOS then in the BIOS disable the SATA drivers and make sure the optical drive is the first boot drive (make sure the XP install disk is in the optical drive), hit F10 save the changes.
The computer will restart and proceed to start setup. When setup get to the section of detecting hard drives you should see the drive in the list.

After you have installed XP you are going to need the drivers as Vista drivers don't work with XP.
You can get the drivers directly from HP here >>>>>>>>>>>

Hard Disk Adapter

Hello,

Why would you go back to XP after having 7?
Installing any operating system:
When you first boot the computer you will see a screen that says press: F1, Delete, etc to enter setup. Once you are in setup (BOIS) navigate with keyboard arrows to find 'boot sequence'. select boot from 'cd'. Remember you have to go back and set this to boot from hard drive after you load the OS (Operating System).
Make sure you save your files, everything will be gone. Also, backup all of your drivers or download them from the internet and store them on a USB flash drive. As you may not be able to access the internet to load them.
Boot from CD>going into setup>install xp>delete partition>create>partition>setup will format drive>quick is fine>will have some prompts for selections, etc.
I hope this helps.

Install windows XP

You sure your HD isn't bad? You could try a low-level format and then try to install, I am assuming you don't mind loosing any data already on the disk.

Xp won't load to hard Disk

Your RAM modules could be faulty or needs reseating. If reseating doesn't work, try swapping them around from the other laptop to see if that works.

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

How to install windows xp sp2 on compaq v3239tu

That happens because the BIOS uses a SATA controller that is not included in Windows XP install disk.

Usually you can solve the problem going to BIOS settings and changing SATA/RAID settings.Check your BIOS settings, and disable SATA RAID mode. This is done in different ways depending on the BIOS.

On HP/Compaq computers for example you press F2 on startup to enter BIOS, then disable SATA mode on bios settings.
On other makes the procedure can be slightly different.

Another way to fix the problem, is by creating your own XP setup disk with SATA drivers included, see:

If  you are trying to install Windows XP in latest Notebook, it will not be able to detect the Hard Drive since all the latest Notebooks are shipped with SATA Hard Drives and by default and Windows XP will not be able to detect SATA Hard Drives by default.
If you are having a Intel based Notebook, you need to download the SATA Drivers from the link below :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp36001-36500/sp36132.exe

Find the instructions to create a bootable XP Disk using the SATA Drivers from the link below :

Hope this helps...

seems that it's a SATA drive and the drivers are not included in XP.
There are some tools available to include these drivers into the XP CD.
Search the net for 'xp-iso-builder' or 'n-Lite'.

This is not necessary if your laptop's got a floppy drive (i don't think so). Then the SATA drivers can easily be loaded by pressing F6 when booting from the XP CD.
