Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

Top part of agitator is loose and wobbles and

The top part of the agitator is loose and wobbles and won't move the load very well. I removed the top plastic piece and then the seal below that and it seems the plastic cam tabs are not gripping the teeth. I can move the agitator both ways by hand and it appears the plastic cam tabs are slipping. Are they supposed to stop the agitator from going in one direction or both directions?
Thanks for your time! Ken

These are called "dogs" and they are replaceable and do not cost much. Basically, they keep the agitator locked in position when the shaft moves in an oppisite direction so the agitator can step forward.

They should be fairly simple to remove with a phillips screwdriver or a 1-4 in nut driver. take them to a reputable appliance parts store and they will be able to sell you replacements.

These are made to wear out and be replaced so the agitator itself doesnt wear, which is a whole different story to replace. Left-handed shaft screw. Undo it in a clockwise direction and slide the agitator off the shaft if you find that replacing the dogs does not work.

Whirlpool top loading cloths washer agitator is loose when it should be turning. how do i tighten it?

Sounds like you might have bad agitator dogs. Remove the agitator cap, theres a 5/16th bolt that needs to be removed then the top of agitator comes off. The dogs are 4 little gears with teeth on them, when they get worn the top half of the agitator doesn't move.

MW511. Pride The wash bowl seems loose and will not spin. I can hear the motor working but no spin is occurring. Will wash and rinse but not spin. It seems balanced on the floor. Would something have come...

The drum is meant to be wobbly, to a certain degree, you might want to get that looked at, but sounds like you need to replace the spline drive, under the wasing drum, remove the agitator, top deck by the 2 screws under lid and lift, then remove the neck ring it just clips on then the wash drum WILL pull out, then in the center you will see the spline drive housing, it has 3 screws, remove these screws and remove, both parts you can see make up the spline drive, replace and put back together in reverse order

Agitator not moving--seems loose

This washer has what we call a bionic agitator and this agitator has a 2 parts:
it has a base and a top section.
IF the BASE IS NOT WORKING AT ALL, please have the transimssion checked and also check the coupling.
IF the BASE is working and the top is NOT
THEN replace the 4 plastic AGITATOR DOGS that are in the agitator.

Remove the CAP from the agitator...remove any plastic cap.
Get a socket wrench and get the socket that removes the bolt.
remove bolt...
PULL the agitator from the base and separate the top from the bottom.
Take the top and turn it upside down to remove the platic interior part that holds these 4 dogs. REMOVE the old dos and replace with new and do a reverse engineeriong putting agitator back.

Kenmore 92587400... The dual action or top portion is not spinning

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getModel!retrieve.pd?pop=true&modelNumber=110.92587400

I assume that you mean that the top agitator is not.

See the section of the Sears site for Agitator, Basket and Tub.

You'll see an item #5 "Clutch, Agitator". These are basically used to allow the top agitator to move only one way. If they are worn (which happens since they are plastic parts) the top agitator may not move either way.

There is also a part #6 "Agitator Auger" that screws into the main agitator shaft from the transmission. If this is loose, the top agitator may not move either.

Both of these are easy to check and repair.

Agitator movement

Hi, If this is a two piece agitator, start the wash cycle with no laundry in it and see if the lower half of the agitator moves. If the lower half works, you will need to change the dog kit inside the agitator. There is a 7/16" bolt under the agitator cap the will need removed to get the agitator out.
If the agitator does not move at all, It could be the coupler connecting the transmission to the motor. If the coupler is bad, tub will not spin the laundry dry.

I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Adgitator removal

Just follow these steps:

1. Remove the center dispenser from the top of the agitator. It should just pop off.
2. Locate the white plastic cap underneath and pull straight up to remove.
3. Locate the agitator bolt underneath and remove using a socket and ratchet (can't remember the size). Hold the agitator still with one hand in order to loosen the bolt.
4. With the bolt removed, grasp the agitator by the bottom flanges and pull straight up. It should lift off the center post.

NOTE: Sometimes these agitators will stick due to years of detergent accumulation. You may have to wobble it back and forth to get it loose.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
