Question about Samsung Microwave Ovens

2 Answers

The door was replaced on our Samsung over-the-range microwave by a service technician, bit it isn't horizontal. He doesn't know how to adjust it, wants to come back and bend some metal part. This doesn't sound right. Surely there is some other adjustment that can be made. This was a Samsung authorized service company.

    Dear taran,

This is an over the range microwave oven. It doesn't have a broil position. When the service tech replaced the door, he removed the vent cover strip at the top of the unit, then just sort of lifted the door out of two slots in the unit. He inserted the new doors' hinges into the slots and the door latches, seemingly OK. It works OK. It doesn't look OK due to the fact that the door isn't horizontal. It seems to need an adjustment. that a local repair guy (not factory authorized) said he THOUGHT he could do for $100. plus 39.95. not having seen my microwave. Any further thoughts?

This is an over the range microwave oven. There is no broiler position. The service technician removed a louvered exhaust panel from the top of the microwave, then lifted the door out of two slots on the left side of the unit. When he replaced the new door, he hooked the hinges back into the slots. The door closes OK, and it works OK, but it doesn't look OK because it isn't horizontal. It seems to need some sort of adjustment so that it will hang correctly. It hung fine before it was replaced. A phone call to a local business informed me that it would cost $100. to come out plus 39.95. I was hoping to find out if it was truly a complicated issue, or if there is no solution, or what else might be the problem

Does anyone else have experience with replacing over the range microwave oven doors? The samsung authorized tech made it look easy, but the door doesn't hang horizontally. It latches and performs OK as far as I can tell, but it doesn't look good and it seems only to need some sort of adjustment. Please help.

Thanks for responding to my problem. I'm not sure why this tech didn't know what sounds like a simple fix, but it's probably because Samsung has authorized an Audio Visual Lab to do their warranty repairs.I'm not sure what I'll do next. But thanks for taking the time. Lauren

This service tech should be ashamed of himself. For starters you have a one year warranty on parts and labor. Regarding the door, the first adjustment is simply to loosen the screws. level the door and retighten the screws. IF the door was level before this "authorized" sercice man started working on it that should be the only step he needs to take. IF he damaged the door while working on it then you may wish to contact your Better Business Bureau or an attorney. Most genuine service technicians are terrofied of the BBB. I can not imagine a scenerio where he would have to "come back and bend some metal part" unless he really screwed up or he is just trying to milk you for a repair. Good luck either way.

Hi,

To be really honest, whether it's Samsung or any other Brand, the basic concept of replacing Oven Door is the same.

What i can guess from the information you gave me, the hinges might needs to be adjusted. If the hinges would be bent, your door would be in a slanting position.

I believe he wanted to fix that hinges.

Let me provide you with detailed information, How usually an Oven door is replaced so that you have a clear picture what might have went wrong :-

  1. Turn off any gas or electrical supplies that run to your oven. If you have a gas oven, locate the gas line and turn the gas off. If you have an electric oven, turn off the electrical circuit that powers your oven so that you can work on your oven door without worrying about electrical issues.
  2. Step 2 Locate the hinge that connects your oven door to the appliance. There are dozens of types of hinges, but the most commonly used hinge in modern ovens is a type that will actually come off with the door, which will make your job a lot easier.
  3. Step 3 Open your oven door to its broil position. Unscrew any screws and remove any brackets that hold your oven door and its hinges in place. If your oven is self-cleaning, for example, it likely has more brackets that connect the door and hinges to your oven.
  4. Step 4 Remove the door from your oven. Do this by grabbing the door---not the handle---and pulling away from the appliance. If you have removed all screws, bolts and brackets, the oven door will simply lift out of its place, and you will be able to remove it from your oven.
  5. Step 5 Install your new oven door by attaching the new hinges that came with your oven door to your oven and screwing them in place. Then screw the other ends of those hinges to the oven itself.
  6. Step 6 Open and close your newly installed oven door several times to make sure that nothing is loose. Check that the door closes tightly and opens and closes smoothly.

Now,

If you want to replace hinge :-

Door hinges on oven doors can sometimes become bent or broken. When this happens, it is necessary to replace the hinges. You can accomplish this task in just a few hours. Before you start, remember to
disconnect the power supply if working on an electric stove, such as a Maytag or similar model, and move the stove away from the wall so you have complete access to both sides of the oven.

  1. Open the oven door and grasp the sides with one hand on each side. Lift the door up to remove it from the hinges. Set the door out of the way.
  2. Step 2 Remove the range top by unscrewing the attaching bolt on the front door flange with a socket wrench. The screws are located in the upper corners, where the door closes.
  3. Step 3 Slide the top of the range forward about 6 inches from the control panel. Locate the wiring harness from the range top to the control panel. Disconnect it by pushing in on the plastic tab and pulling it apart. Grasp the top panel with both hands and lift it from the stove. Set it aside in a safe place.
  4. Step 4 Remove the screws on the rear edge of each side panel that connects the side to the rear of the stove. Also remove the screw on each end cap of the control with a screwdriver. Lift the side panel up, removing it from the key hole tabs on the front, and set to the side.
  5. Step 5 Remove the two hex head screws that attach the hinge to the front of the oven using a socket wrench. They are located above and below the hinge.
  6. Step 6 Install the new hinges by attaching them with the hex head screws.
  7. Step 7 Line up the side panel with the front panel key hole and set it in place. Attach the side panel to the rear of the stove with the attaching screws and reattach the console ends with a single screw on each side.
  8. Step 8 Place the top panel back on the oven. Connect the control panel wires to the range top by pushing the connector back together. Slide the top panel back into position.
  9. Step 9 Secure the top panel by reattaching the screws under the front flange. Open the ends of the hinges with your finger at about a 45 degree angle. Set the door in the hinges and close the door.
  10. Step 10 Reconnect the power to the range and slide the range back into its position.

Check internal fuse. If it's ok, one of the internal door switches, the high voltage circuitry, or the circuit board may have a problem. Inside door latch broken on my Sanjo microwave EMD9552

Hi, For any repairs involving door latches on microwave ovens, I strongly urge you to get a certified service technician to replace and adjust the door for you as he should have a leak detector to verify the fix. Replaced 20amp fuse that was blown. new fuse did not blow, but oven is still dead.

see this causes and fix it. God bless you
If your microwave oven doesn't seem to work at all, check these: Fuses Door switch Fuses Usually, when your microwave oven doesn't work it all, the internal fuse (thermal fuse) is blown. This fuse protects both you and the oven. When it blows, you need to have a qualified appliance repair technician replace it. Door switch If the fuse isn't the problem, check the door hooks and the door-release button. When these are broken, the door switch doesn't activate, so the oven can't work

I have to press up on the door to make it heat

Rich,

It sounds like there is an issue with the interlock latch or switch that allows the inverter to operate. Check the following:

The door hinges to be sure they aren't loose, misaligned or bent.

Check the latch on the door to be sure it engages the cam inside the main unit solidly and that there isn't any play in the door. Also check the door gasket to make sure it isn't preventing the door from closing properly. Since you said the unit was over the stove, things can become misaligned from the stovetop heat.

You may be able to able to fix this, but it may require partial disassmebly of the microwave. If you are unfamiliar with this type of service, it's best left to a trained service tech.

You should disconnect the power before attempting any repairs.

The adjustment does not last, the technician should have replaced the door switch from the beginning to avoid a callback and leaving a bad impression. To trouble shoot you will need a digital meter, if you have one one post back.

Runs but doesn't heat replaced two fuses and magnetron still doesn't heat

Here is your free answer in under 10 minutes ...

You have a faulty door safety interlock switch. I wish you would have searched your problem here before you spent all that money on the magnetron. I have answered this question dozens of times here at this site.

When the oven runs but doesn't heat, more often than not it is nothing more than a faulty micro switch in the door latch system. When the switch doesn't work properly, the oven doesn't know the door is closed. If the door isn't closed, the oven will not energize the magnetron. Capacitors and magnetrons are **** and expensive answers but these items are extremely tough. It is the tiny contacts in the micro switch that can not stand the repeated abuse given them when we (read me in that number too) open the oven while it is energized causing a repeated flash across the contacts.

Thanks for your question @ FixYa.com
