Question about Toshiba Satellite P15-S420 Notebook
I have a toshiba a 350 this computer was bought in April and hasnt been back and forth futureshop since(never got to use it a day! I seem to be having similar issues some here. This comp will not charge while open if i shut it it charges but while open runs off the battery.they have changed the power supply the connection going into the comp.reflashed the bios ,updated drivers and fixed a resistor on the mobo and still as I type with it plugged in its running out of power any sugggestions how i can fix this issue.
Do one thing, if possible of course. Download any Linux distro and create a bootable USB or DVD/CD with the distro, Once that is all set, have your laptop to boot from the USB port, reboot the laptop with the USB already connected. Once booted, click on Live disk or Try before installing, this won't change anything the HDD so there is nothing to worry about. While testing the live disk, connect the charger or power supply to the laptop with the lid open to see if it charges. If it does, then it's a problem with Windows it self. Right now is kind of hard to explain since I'm not on a Windows machines now. But do try it.

Here's what happened (The fix is at the end):
8 months after buying my Toshiba A135 the battery began charging only intermittently. It also would not run without the battery. I put up with it for a month then took it back to Best Buy to get it repaired under warranty. They kept it over 2 weeks then gave it back saying it was the battery, which they replaced. One week later I had the same problem again. Back to Best Buy. The guy at the counter said it was probably the battery, they had encountered a lot of that. I said no, explained it, and gave it over to be fixed. 2 weeks later I got it back. They had reset the BIOS, no hardware replacement. I got it home and it was not fixed. I took it back the next day. They kept it 2 more weeks. They replaced the motherboard. I took it home and...you guessed it the same problem on the day I got it home!!! I took it back with one week left on my warranty. I don't remember what they replaced the last time but I think it was the motherboard again. I got it home (2 weeks later) and THE SAME PROBLEM on the day I got it home. So, the lesson there is that Best Buy computer maintenance SUCKS!!
I called Toshiba to try to get them to fix it for free, and out of warranty. After several frustrating minutes of conversation with an accented person who just kept telling me that my warranty was up, I hung up and called back and got an English speaking person. SHE was very helpful, listened to my problem, agreed to give me a one-time fix ticket. They paid for the postage. When I got my computer back it was mostly fixed.
The problem was the module at the back of the computer where the power cord plugs in. It was defective. Some wire or solder had gotten loose. They replaced it and it worked fine after that, except that when it goes into sleep mode it will not wake up. I fixed that by turning off all the sleep mode options. BTW, a friend of mine with the same computer is now having the same problem.

Do you mean to replace the motherboard or the Bios? I assume you mean the motherboard.
I've been researching the possiblity of having a new bios chip put on the motherboard instead of the cost of a new motherboard (300+ install).
Thank you for the quick response.

how long have you had your laptop? the toshiba laptop battery can be normal used in 400-500 cycles, that means normal in 2 years. if the age is over 2 years, the battery declines day by day. get a new one if it is unnormal
