Question about Mitsubishi WS-55859 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

TV will not come on

I have a Mitsubishi WS-A55 rear projection TV manufactured in March of 2003. When I try to turn on the TV, nothing happens. I unplug it, let it sit for a few minutes, and then plug in. The timer light next to the power button flashes a few times and then goes out. The TV still does not turn on. What is my next step? Thanks!

The light comes on, flashes twice, and then shuts off.

The flashing LED may be telling you the source of the problem; note the relative spacing of the flashes and the number of times it flashes before staying off. The set is trying to tell you where it is sick but I suspect it is related to the power supply; the most common failure point of most modern sets. If you post back here as a 'comment' you won't have to repeat your symptoms.

I'm pasting my normal suggestions below which may help you:

If it just fails to turn on, the main power supply is probably at
fault and without some technical background and a couple of test instruments,
you will not be able to do the repair yourself.

    What
you can do though is; unplug the set, let it stand overnight or at least
several hours, remove the back panel and look for a separate board with mostly
larger components on it; it will have a ferrite core transformer on it and
several larger capacitors which are cylindrical and mounted vertically to the
    board.

Before touching anything inside, especially on that board,
allow several hours to be safe since the larger capacitors can hold a painful
    voltage charge for some hours.

If you see signs of overheating such as discoloration of
the board material, it may not be repairable but if you can find a part number
on the board, you might be able to buy the power supply from the manufacturer and install it
    yourself.

If there are no signs of heat damage to the board, there
may be companies offering to repair it as a subassembly instead of repairing
the whole set which could be much more expensive.

    If
you choose to replace or have it done, the power supply
still may not be at fault since most
are capable of switching on and off if a downstream problem is causing an
    overload.

    Good luck-

Mitsubishi WS-A55 with a 2-3 error code

SD Tech - I have the error code 22 on my WS-A55. Power light comes on and then quickly shuts off. Looked at circuit board - there was greenish "gunk" on two of the electronic parts on the board in the center (behind the speaker grill) in the area labelled R5A62. Would you be so kind as to post repair instructions and the name of parts seller you mentioned above? Thanks!!!

YELLOW TINT ON SCREEN MITSUBISHI TV MODEL WS 55313

The WS is a picture tube type rear projection first produced as a 2003 model year set.

A few questions and then a offer if needed.

Did this happen suddenly or after a power loss?

By reboot do you mean the recessed reset button on the front of the set?

I will presume if you turn color off completely the screen is some other color than black and white?

the offer: have you tried the Option menu this set has hidden, I can explain if needed.
