Hello. First thing...is there *any* display at all such as a number code in the upper right hand corner of the lcd? It will appear as "C:00:00" or "E:00:00", minus the quotation marks. If there is a "C" in front of the numbers, the problem is fixable by you--an "E" means that the problem has to be addressed by a tech. Next, to reset ALL functions back to factory defaults, open the LCD display on the side and locate the small reset button just to the left of the MENU button. Use a pen or pencil (the end of a paper clip works beautifully) and press the button momentarily. Don't use a lot of force to do it--not needed. If this doesn't bring up any display, then there is an internal circuit problem. Can you see an image if you play back a tape? If so, then the problem concerns the CCD chip or associated circuitry. The ccd chip provides all the video information to the eyepiece and lcd screen in *record* mode. In *playback* mode, the camera acts just like a small VCR. Any video is being pulled from magnetic tape. Is the camera still under any type of warranty? A CCD chip problem is a major repair and will be relatively costly. Do not repair the camera through a store! Find a reputable repair facility and ship it directly--the cost will be FAR less.(Retail stores take the actual repair quote, half it, and add the half to the quote *you* see.)---Hope I helped you!---Rick
