The menu setup button on your monitor is either shorted or already failing. Try to get it replaced/repaired if it's still under warranty.

I get a pop up with a RED CONTRAST screen every few minutes It sometimes goes away if I push the contrast button on my Dell monitor. but it will usually come right back. I have tried everything to stop...

You can try the monitor on another computer to verify it is the monitor and not the display card at fault.

I'm assuming this is an LCD monitor. If you are sure the monitor is the problem, then your monitor's display driver circuit is probably getting close to failing. When one of the three colors (red, green, blue) becomes intermittent, the screen takes on the hue of the working colors. In your case it sounds like the blue is starting to fail.

A repair technician may be able to replace the circuit.

Monitor problem

If you restart your computer and either go to the Bios setup menu (usually by pressing DEL or some other noted key, in the first few seconds of power up) does the same "contrast" menu still appear?

If so, then it must be your monitor (likely Monitor, not computer)
Your monitor is mad at you and it is displaying a Warning Message that is part of its OSD (On Screen Display). Some monitors are more sensitive then others so it takes very little to get this type of message. To get rid of it you will need to use the buttons on the monitor to get into the OSD menus. You need to look for something like "OSD Settings" or "Warning Message Settings" which may be found under "Setup Menu" or "Options Menu". This all depends on the make and model of the monitor as they are all slightly different.

Once you find this area you will need to turn off a setting that will be called "Warning Messages" or "Display Notifications", again the wording may be different but the idea is the same. Once you find the setting you should have the choice to set it to "ON", "OFF" or to an amount of time it will display (5 seconds, 15 seconds etc...).

On my Viewsonic the setting is found under "Setup Menu", and then I turn off "Warning Notification".

GOOD LUCK!!

ps. If the display looks OK then there is most likely nothing wrong. The message appears because the monitor detects a setting that may be in error. If the message goes away after a bit and doesn't bother you, you may choose to ignore it.

OSD main menu pop-up will not go away

Please try to Turn the monitor off. Hold down the Menu button while the monitor is turned off, then press the Power button again to turn the monitor back on. This should unlock your OSD menu and remove that message from your screen. best regards

Monitor display is blurry, with shadows and waves next to text

Jnanda,
Could be one of two related situations both have to do with built up magnetic flux:

!. If you have used the monitor for a significant amount of time and have never degaussed it that might be it.

To fix: Go to where your monitor's controls are (eg screen size/position, Brightness, Contrast, etc.). Providing that we are referring to an older style monitor (like a TV) and not a flat screen, you should find a degaussing button located there. This button is marked with a depiction of a horseshoe magnet. Press it.

If you have on screen settings control, hit the menu button and select the icon that looks like a horseshoe magnet.

You'll hear a buzz and the screen will go kooky for a moment.

You're then degaussed. Your problem should go away.

2. You may have moved the monitor close to a source of electromagnetic interference (or vice-versa) this will also cause that sort of thing you describe (remember that there are electrical lines in the walls (another source of EMI)

In that case move the monitor away from the EMI source or move the EMI source away from the monitor.

Remember that it could be both 1 and 2. So if the problem lessens but does not go away fully try both steps.

Monitor displays 'user mode' contrast icon @ 89%

Colin

If you can access the on-screen menu (see link below for manual) try and reset to factory settings.

http://bizsupport.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00385928/c00385928.pdf

If that doesn't resolve the problem, then also check and see if any of the control buttons are stuck, (Press button them flick finger away to try an release a stuck button)

If issue still exists, you can consult a TV repair shop, but essentially, then monitor is uneconomically repairable and it would be more cost effective to just replace it with an LCD monitor

Menu keeps popping up

Never a good idea to clean with any spray cleaner. The cleaner does get down in the button bar and cause corrosion and shorting along ribbon cable. Use screen wipes for computer monitors only on TV's and any type of monitors. You can remove the back of the case. And remove the button board and clean with a cue tip and alcohol along ribbon cable.
