One possible solution is replacing the back up battery. It is located behind a little door with a screw right above the AAA batteries. You could also reset by taking out all batteries including the backup battery. Leave them out for a few hours before reassembling. This may work also. Hope this helps.

My TI-83 Plus has a black screen, and changing the contrast and the batteries does not fix the problem.

If you've dropped it recently, there's a chance the screen is messed up. Hitting the back of the calculator firmly may fix the problem, but otherwise there is little you can do to fix the problem other than taking it to somebody who can fix it for you, or buying a new one.

My TI-83 calculator doesnt gives me the solutions for tangents that have a negative number. Ex. tan(-1) -5/2

Once you reset your calculator, everything should be fine. Sometimes your calculator's memory stores your cos, tan, and sin and messes up your calucations.T o reset your calculator:
  1. Press 2nd then MEM (which is above the + key)
  2. Press 7 to reset
  3. Press 2 for default
  4. Press 2 again to reset defaults
  5. Press enter
  6. Done.
You should be able to get the answer for that, which is 3.8935, in radians at least. :)

How to convert Metric tons to long tons

To my knowledge the TI-83 doesnt do conversions.

1 metric ton = 0.984206528 long tons, so if you just multiply that number by the number of metric tons, you will get your converted number.

Sorry there isnt a built in parameter to my knowledge. If you upgrade to the TI-85, I believe you start to get some of that functionality!

Calculator freezing and shutting off

I see that you have an earlier version of the OS. You should update it to version 1.19 available at Click the dowloads >> Apps and software menu.
The most likely reason for the RAM cleared is a depleted backup battery.

You might want to solve the problem and the update all at one go.
Check this article in the TI FAQ and Knowledge base for the procedure. The article contains an internal link to the OS Installation procedure.

Before you start on this journey, make sure the batteries (main and backup) are in a good state. Many OS installation failures happen because of quasi-depleted batteries.

Hope it helps.

Problem with my TI-83 plus silver ed.RIgthside screen doesnt work

Here is a horizontaly split sceen. Lower oart is normal working scree. The upper part is for the gpahic screen, but I entered no function to plot. In the image the focus is onthe graph screen, hence no blinking cursor in lower (normal entry) screen.

Here is a vertically split screen
All these are artificially created behaviors. That is why we often suggest to reset ALL RAM or reset the defaults.

Hope it helps.

Horizontal lines obstructing the second half of the ti 83 calculator screen, anyone know repair tips?

I had the same prob with vertical lines on the screen, and getting messed up when there was lots of numbers on the screen.

Solution: Change your batteries. Put some freshies in then adjust your contrast until you see the little black box. If you still have a problem with the lines, darken the screen until it's black (2nd up repeatedly) and let it sit for a couple minutes. Lighten your screen back to normal (2nd down) and turn off then turn her back on.
