You can try external USB speakers and external USB mouse. Make sure to use a powered USB hub.

Im anew account from skype

Download Skype from the Skype website (see Resources), choosing to "Install" and "Run" the program when prompted by your PC.
Double-click the Skype icon on your desktop to open Skype. A small window, titled "Welcome to Skype" will pop up, prompting you to type in your Skype name and password--if you don't have one, click on the option under the "Skype Name" input form titled "Don't Have a Skype Name?"
Input your details into the "Create a New Skype Account" window that pops up. It asks for your full name and email, and you will have to create a Skype name and password. Click "I Agree-Create Account" once you are done and have perused the Skype license agreement. The Skype interface will come up, from where you can make calls and video chat--you will be logged in under the Skype name you just created.

Using Skype
Find contacts--friends or family also on Skype--by clicking on the upper left-hand menu item in the Skype interface named "Contacts." Click on "New Contact" and input your friend's full name, email or Skype name and click "Find." Alternatively, click "Import Contacts" from the "Contacts" menu to import contacts from a number of various programs, such as existing Facebook, Hotmail and AOL accounts.
Contact another Skype user on their computer by clicking on his name in the "Contacts" panel on the left side of the Skype interface. This will bring up a number of options in the right-hand panel of the Skype interface. Click on the green button that says "Call" to make a voice call to this person's Skype account. Click on the green button that says "Video Call" to make a video call to this person's Skype account. Type an instant message into the text box at the bottom of the Skype interface to start an IM conversation with this person.
Call a land line or cell phone from Skype by clicking on the "Call Phones" button on the bottom left of the left-side panel of the Skype interface. This will bring up a large number pad in the right-hand panel of the interface, but you need Skype Credit in order to call.
Click on the "Buy Skype Credit" in the small box on the far right of the right-hand Skype interface panel. This takes you to a secure page. Follow the prompts to enter your billing address and credit card number, and your Skype Credit will be loaded. Go back to the "Call Phones" page and enter the phone number you wish to call, then press the large green button that says "Call."

I think that your speakers are probably broken, maybe you should try installing drivers first, if this doesn't help you can jump to the conclusion that they really are broken.

External sound won't work. red light on audio port when try to turn it up a 'no entry' sign comes up

This is a VERY common problem with all types of MacBooks. However, it is also VERY easy to fix this problem. What you'll need: A can of compressed air ( for dusting off computers and electrical components).
Step 1: Insert the end of the straw (the end the air comes out of) into your earphone jack (the audio port that the red light is coming out of). No need to jam it in there. Just insert it about 1/4 inch.
Step 2: Spray bursts of air into the port. This will NOT harm the MacBook. I won a MacBook repair business and we use this technique frequently. While you apply the air, try the volume button over and over. Sometimes you have to wait a couple of seconds after you apply the air. The air pressure corrects the switch inside that usually gets out of whack after using headphones or external speakers. The volume problem has even happened to my personal MacBooks. Don't forget to vote after this helps you out. Here's my e-mail in case you have further questions: (iPatch Solutuons)

Mic problem

It may not work, but you could always try going into the audio settings and raising your microphones volume, so it comes through louder.

You can find that utility at:
Tools > Options > Audio Settings > Microphone Volume.

It should help, but it may not. I hope this works for you.

My macbook air has has slowed down after using skype. The start-up takes a long while. In general, the computer has slowed down.

Click the Apple in the upper-left corner, then click System Preferences. Click User Accounts. Now, click the lock at the bottom if you need to authenticate and make changes. Highlight your name and click the Login Items tab on the right. Highlight Skype and click the minus (-) button. Now Skype won't start when your computer does. If that doesn't help, open your Applications folder and drag Skype to the trash to remove it from your system. If that doesn't help, something else is causing your computer to slow down.

Let me know. I'll monitor your thread.

Voyager 520 headset on a macbook, trying to use skype

have you gone into system preferences/sound.input/output settings?
try making a free test call, and you can play around with all your settings that way...also helps to keep the volume turned down on your mac, and just adjust it using your headset.
