Windows XP

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  4. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  6. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  7. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  9. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  10. Exit Registry Editor.
  11. Restart the computer.

Stop working

Code 10 could mean either the driver has gotten corrupted: repair for this is to reinstall the driver; or it could mean the drive itself has come to the end of it's lifespan; repair for this is to replace with a new drive. Before buying a new drive check all cables going to the drive to see if any came loose, and reinstall the driver. If this does not work you will need a new drive. Hope this helps & please take a moment to rate my solution. Thanks.

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

I would try stopping the device and restarting it first.

If that doesn't work, find the latest drivers for it, and have them in a folder you can find easily. In device manager, you can right click, go into properties for the DVD-ROM. Click the update drivers button, and point it to that directory.

If neither of those work ,try completely uninstalling it from device manager, then going through the add new hardware option in control panel.

Cd/rom not working

Try deleting it in the device manager and then reboot your computer to see if it will detect it, then when it asks, point it to the driver.

After installing vista service pack 1 my dvd rom is gone.

Download the latest driver for dvd rom from Acer that will work with Vista SP1. Also try uninstalling the device in device manager and restart your computer. Vista may find "new hardware" and install the driver from its driver pack in SP1.

Optiarc cd-rw crx880a ata device: This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Did you try to click "Troubleshoot" on the page that reported "cannot start" ?

Did you try to click on the device, and choose "uninstall" ?
Then, rebooting Windows should cause Windows to "find new hardware", and properly configure the DVD/CD drive.

Computer problem

if the code-10 is in device manager it usually means 1 of 2 things:
1) the drivers installed are the wrong ones
2) the cd/dvd drive needs replacing

if the drive is removable, remove it and reinsert it to see if it is just a bad connection. if it was working before and is no longer working, the drive may need replacing. if it was working before and died after a system or driver update, use "roll back driver" in the device manager properties box for the dvd drive.

hope this helps,
trin
