Lens won't close, can't take pics

Worked fine last night, then this morning: when turning off lens will not come back in and close. When I try to take a pic, I get "Please turn camera off and then on again." Almost like the lens is stuck. Help?! Thank you.

SOURCE: my Lumix won't stick it's lens out.

I recently had this problem after a trip to a sandy beach. The solution was to take the camera apart and blow out all the sand and dust. To help you get it apart, take off all the obvious outside screws and then unhinge the back and front, with the hinge point being the top. The back and screen can easily be removed by tugging on the cables where they fix into the circuit board. (Just push the large cable back in, for the smaller cable you need to use the little hinge on it (initially put the hinge towards the edge of the camera, insert the small cable, then fold the hinge back towards the centre of the camera. Continue to take out small silver coloured screws with a jeweler's screwdriver. I was able to get to the elecromechanical optical train in this way. I did not have to remove the tiny black screws inside this unit. After thorough cleaning and blowing out dust/ sand etc. the camera was fairly easy to put back together. Total time was about 90 minutes. Note: there was no need to take off any of the buttons on the top, nor to take out the battery nor memory card. Good luck.

SOURCE: Lens Cover Won't Open

NO Super glue this can be fixed pretty easily to get fixed. most local shops will not charge you to much to fix it maybe 15 to 20 at the most i figure. or you can remove the lens cover by putting a very small flat head screw driver on the side of the lens and with the camera off pull away from the camera and it should just pop off. Superglue if you get it on the lens will rune the whole thing. Just tiring to help out . I repair lens shutters all the time they are just mechanical parts nothing really special about them.

Cant get the power to turn on,worked fine last night, it got unplugged, this morning plugged in, won't turn on and the power button just flashse

Flashing is either an error code or the set trying to boot up--some of the Mitsubishi sets if power removed will blink for a minute and then stop--then the set can be turned on.

Lens makes noise when camera is turned on/off

I had the same problem and took it back to where I purchased it (5 months previous) and had it sent away for repair. I was asked if there was any sand in the lens or if I dropped it (no to both) Turned out that the lens had to be replaced due to malfunction.

try these:-
  • connect it to pc and on it
  • vaccum the barrel of lens
  • changing mem. card and batt. for 2min.
  • shake it.
  • on and off in different positions
  • hit the part near lens softly with palm (trust me this made mine work)

IR-300 Olympus

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

Black screen, loud beeping when opened, doesn't work

The following blog outlines some simple repair options for a lens error. But please first try the listed Fix #2. I heard that fix particularly works well for a camera who's battery had run down with the lens open. Please post back here with a follow up comment if any of the fixes work:

The lens is stuck

my daughter sat on ours while it was on and the lens wouldn't retract. I tried the banging repair suggested for a stuck lens. After quite a few tries, it got the lens to retract when turned off but it wouldn't stay out when on, so i grabbed the lens and gently pulled it all the way out while it was on and it worked! (phew!)
