Unplug dryer. Open top by either removing screws at top of front panel, or if none on your model, pushing in on clips at the seem to release top at front, allowing it to swing back. (still attached at back) Now, remove two screws (one on each side) near the top, holding the front panel onto the side panels. Unhook the wires from the door switch and lift the front panel forward and outward to take it off. You do not have to remove the belt. Just pull the drum forward a bit to get the shaft at the back of the drum out of the sleave (it is a tight squeeze at the front of the side panels). Replace the sleave. Check the drum slides on the back side of the front panel too. Reassemble.

This could be one of several things.
1.thermal fuse is blown(with power off(unplugged)check for continuity)
2.Belt is broken (check belt).
3.loose wire somewhere
4.Door switch malfuntion push in on it and and test for continuity.
5.The control board is malfunctioning.Try removing it and observe the back of it for burnt or cracked places.
6.Motor is bad test for power to motor see wiring diagram and tech sheet inside cabinet.

My dryer has power but won't start

It sounds like one of two things. First of all, if you could let me know the make and model of your dryer, I can give you a more direct answer. But in the meantime, it sounds like its either the door switch is bad...and this is mostly on the upper right side of the dryer door - inside, where the door closes. Or, it could be a bad fuse - which is located on the lower back of most dryers. It has one screw holding it. It's about 1 1/2" long, and has two wires going to it. You can remove the wires and check continuity. If there's continuity (a closed circuit), then its fine. If not, then its bad! You can find either of these parts at your local appliance store. The way to check, or replace the front switch is to open up the top of your dryer. Use a straight edged flat screwdriver to pry open the top of the dryer. It just pops up, and then you can see the switch down on the right side where the wires are coming from, and it should be plugged in to the feed wires coming from the back of the dryer. Don't concern yourself with this part yet. Its all self-explanatory when you see it. Let me know if you need further assistance. If so, please send me the make and model also - that way I can guide you directly to the problem. Good Luck, and I hope this works for you. - Jim

Hi, If you don't clean out the lint trap frequently, your dryer may have small lint fires inside the cabinet. The smell from these fires can leave a strong odor in the clothes drum.
Here's what to do:
  • First, clean all of the lint from the inside cabinet and ductwork of your dryer.
  • Have a qualified appliance repair technician inspect the dryer for damage caused by any lint fire.
  • Move all containers of flammable liquids at least 50 feet away from the dryer. Gas dryers have a large flame when operating properly and can ignite the fumes of any flammable liquid or gas.
  • Then, try to clear the odor, by running a couple of loads of old rags or towels.

Problem with top dryer on stackable frigidaire

The switch may be bad or just not engaging when the door is closed. To test it you could tape something to the inside of the door right where the door meets the switch and see if it comes on. I did that and it worked. I use it as a temp. fix.
