Is there any standby lights on the front? does it power on? if it doesn't have neither of those the monitor is fried. if it is running and their is nothing on the screen it is either the screen has failed. the motherboard for it is separate from the power. or something is wrong with the port on your computer. but most likely its the monitor. the flat screens aren't built to last long like the CRT's that were used before hand.

1. Try unplugging and reattaching the power cables.
2. Try swapping power cables for your monitor and your computer tower if they are the same.
3. If the above steps do not work, most probably your monitor is busted. Try to get it replaced/repaired if it's still under warranty.

Compaq's are notoriously under powered. You should take a look at the power rating on your power supply, then cheque the necessary voltage for the card. Also make sure that the card doesn't have an extra power connection that you need to fill to make it work.

Discoloration problem

There are several problems when discoleration happens to moniters. One is that a connection inside the moniter becomes loose so you can just try and jiggle the cord around a bit to see if that helps. if now go into your moniters menu by pressing one of the grey buttons and first try going into your color options and adjusting the settings in there. IF that doesent work try going into an extras setting or Other settings, im not to sure what its under but find the demagnitize option and select that.

Compaq Armada E500 PC Notebook Display Completly Out

Hi Jeryl; Im sorry to have to te3ll you but when the power went out it sent a surge to the external monitor . This blew the monitor which in turn blew your video display. This is a not so uncommon problem with laptop displays. They are very fragile. Especially when it comes to power urges. The only way you can fix this is to replace the monitor. Even this may not fix the problem. It could be any one of a few thousand parts inside your laptop. Best advice would be to let your local repair shop do the repair. Hope this has helped. If it has please accept this answer. Thank you; HELP2DIY
