Question about Dell Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My computer won't boot up - I either get the screen saying start in safe mode, or a Dell screen with little squilly blue lines. When I got it to come up once, then my mouse wouldn't move!

That sounds like the main board has a failure. Your best option is contact Dell for a replacement system board. If your computer is no longer new, you can just purchase another used dell for about 100 bucks (Tower only) at gearxs or 3btech.net, or on google shopping. Before going that route though, contact Dell and have them assist you in diagnosing the issue. A replacement board is about 100-200 bucks, and will fit like a glove.

Restart the computer and Tap F8 to boot to safe mode. Once you see the options, then use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode and hit enter. Once you are inside safe mode, then do the system restore from there.

Click on start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore

Select a restoration point and launch it.

If you can't go to safe mode, please drop me a line and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Dell will boot and freeze before reaching log in screen. Will only function in "Safe Mode". I have run all diagnostics and no problems detected. What could the problem be

There's some program or driver that is loading up when windows starts "normally" that's no when it starts in safe mode. Have you recently installed any new hardware? Webcam? Printer? Harddrive? if you have, go to device manager while in safe mode and remove the driver. If you installed a new program that runs automatically during start up, then use MSCONFIG to change it from starting. Again, do this from safe mode. Go to start > run >TYPE: msconfig and then ok, and then the tab should be called "startup". one of these two things are most likely the problem because like you said it boots in safe mode no problem, Safe mode had the computer boot with only the bare minimum drivers/software needed for start up. If neither of these two things work, then, (again, in safe mode) right click your hard drive from My computer > properties >Tools > Check now (under error checking)

Hope this helps you solve it

Windows shut down to prevent damage

You need to boot your system into Safe Mode by pressing F8 just before the Windows startup screen loads, once in Safe Mode do a system restore to a previous date to when your system was working.

This should sort out your problem.

Won' start up properly

Hello, you might be having an issue with a Peripheral Device in the computer, conflicting with it to boot up, please disconnect any USB devices, port replicators, or printers/scanner on the serial ports, if this solves the issue and you're able to access your computer, please reinstall the drivers for those devices, you can test each one of them to see wich one is the troublemaker.
Additionally if you don't have any peripherals connected, then please try to boot up in safe mode, to do so, please restart the computer, then when you see the Dell Logo, press the F8 key at start up, then please chose the safe mode option, and press enter. If you are able to enter safe mode, then please press the keys [Windows] + [R] and in the screen that pops up, type "msconfig", without quotes, go to the Startup tap and select, disable all. Afterwars restart the computer and let us know if it worked.

Dell 1501 inspiron laptop blank screen

Hi,

Have you installed any application/program prior to the blue screen? Most blue screen causes your system not to boot to your operating system anymore. It is possible that your hard drive is crashed due to a virus infections or spywares. Incompatibility and corrupted system registry may affect your system to have blue screen as well.

You may try the following steps below.

1. Restart your computer. After you pressed the power button to restart. Keep on tapping F8 key on the keyboard on and off.

2. Boot advanced option will show up on the screen. You may boot your computer to the following option.

a. Last known good configuration
b. Safe mode with Networking.

If Safe mode w/networking works, restore your computer to an earlier using the system restore features.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

jeff
