07 Armada

posted by thump2007 on Dec 20, 2007

I have a 2007 Nissan Armada with the AM/FM/XM/ 6 CD changer and a video system all OEM. The display when using the XM does not always display the full 16 sharacters on the dash. Most of the time it is only displaying 8 characters. The dealer has replaced the display, but it is doing the same thing that I brought in in for. Any ideas?

I have a 2007 Nissan Armada with a factory AM/FM/XM/ 6 CD radio. It also has video. No nav. Almost every time I turn the unit on only 8 characters of the display will show. Maybe 1 out of 20 times will the full 16 caharacters light up. The dealer has replaced the display unit, however this is a continuing problem.

Please help.

You're not going to like my answer.

This is a known issue with the Nissan Factory Installed XM radio. Well, known by their upper tier techs at least. And they have no fix for it. It's a defect in the firmware programming. There is a work around. Always have it set to CD when you turn your car on. Some owners have reported that, if it's set to CD first, and then switched to XM after the car is running, it continues to display 16 characters.

I know that's a pain in the neck, but it seems to be the closest thing to a solution there is, short of replacing the whole unit with a different model.

You will need to ask the dealer to replace the display again I'm afraid. I had a friend that had a similar problem with their Nissan. They had problems with display and the CD 4 times. If you try and do it yourself, that will void the warranty. Good luck

So far Nissan hasn't came up with an acceptable solution or explanation. So, it is time to try plan B.

The present radio I have has AM/FM/XM/ 6 CD changer and the DVD equipment.

It is possible to change the existing unit for the upgraded nav unit while maintaining everything that I already have.

Is the wiring there for the upgrade? Can they use the existing head unit and just changing out the display unit?

If the head unit, display unit and the nav unit added, will the 6CD changer and teh DVD unit still work? Or does the whole system have to be changed out?

Thanks,
