Question about Hitachi 46F500 46" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

TV turns on, No pictura at all, and a clicking like a signal light can be heard.

I'll start form the beginning. I turned on the TV, the colors were not lined up or there was one missing (not too sure anymore), so I went to the MagicFocus option in the menu. Just when I got to the option the TV went blank,no light emitting at all, just a blank black screen. I turned it off and turned it back on to see if that did anything, it didn't! I noticed after that when I turn the TV on there is a clicking noise like a signal light from a car emitting from inside. Is this dead bulbs? Any help would be appreciated. Thank-you I turn tv on nothing go on and a clicking like a signanl light can be heard

Hello sburdano,
Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: The colors are all working, they are just out of alignment.
Judging by what you have said hear, I would assume that the television have been moved, rather roughly, or bumped into rather abruptly. The color wheel will need to be re-aligned to the lamp and lens. You need to find out what your local TV Repair shop would charge for re-tuning.
Have a great day!

Heard a pop and now no picture

You are on the right track for the repair of the set.
You should be able to hear the color wheel spin up as the lamp begins to glow. If it is not spinning then that is the first thing I would replace. During the power on sequence, if the color wheel is not detected as spinning, the set will turn off the lamp.

Since the lamp is firing up, I would not suspect the ballast. I would say having a spare ballast and lamp is very good idea for these televisions.

I have repaired these sets before and have ended up replacing the lamp, ballast, and color wheel all at the same time.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

HL-R6768W not turning on. High pitch spin sound. Bad color wheel?

The high-pitched whine is definitely the color wheel.  The early color wheels had problems and many had to be replaced.  As part of the turn-on process, the TV checks for light and then checks for color wheel sync.  If the bearings are wearing out/dried out, it could cause issues with getting the proper color wheel sync, causing the set to not pass the turn on sequence.
Check Sears or for a color wheel.  I like sears for experimental replacements since they allow easy returns.
BTW, mine is an early 61".  My color wheel was replaced when I had to replace my Light Engine.  My in-laws 50" was an early one and theirs went out within 2 years.

Lamp light turns red

Yes this is the signal for a bad lamp. Other things can cause this. 1. Look at the new lamp. make sure it still looks good. not broken with little glass pieaces in it. 2. When you turn on the tv, put your ear to the lower back part of the tv near the middle. Listen for the start up of the color wheel (a low high pitch sound only at the start up of the motor). If this is good you will here a ticking sound only if the lamp dose not light.

Now with all this info. If the lamp lights (as seen from the back of the set) and goes out after a few seconds and you did not here the color wheel spin up, the color wheel is bad.

If you here the color wheel spin up and no ticking sound, the Ballast is bad.

The ballast part no. 939P978010

The color wheel is not avialable from Mits. You will have to replaced the light engine. It cost to much. Just buy a new tv.
