You don't. You have to be certified hvac. There is soldering, capturing, and disposing of freon and it requires special documents to purchase some freon.

What freon to use

Hey friend, thank you for the post!

I understand that you are searching for what type of freon is used in your Frigidaire freezer, FFU14F5HW. Based off of that model the freon would be 134A. Hope this information is helpful. -Matt

With compressor running, low side pressure starts out about 15 psi then goes to a little below zero. i have added r134 freon until low side reached 10 to 12 psi. pressure stays there for a while then goes...

Wow, it would seem like you have a leak there on the low side. You add and it goes goes back to equal on the low side again. The gauge could be off just a bit. Have you pulled a vacum test on the unit? Sounds like you should pull everything out, vacum and the weigh in the correct charge at this point assuming that you do not have a leak or can find and fix it.

Refrig not cooling enough

Probably not a mistake but it won't perform properly outside. It may need a shot of freon. The extension cord is not a good idea either. Hope this helps and answers your questions.

Need to add freon

  • if you are tapping into a sealed system, then you use the larger of the two copper lines coming out of the side of the compressor (this is the low pressure line, the compressor pulls from this side).
  • clean off the copper tubing with some fine sandpaper before installing your tap.
  • it is very easy to over fill a system with freon, so i would recommend pulling down the system to -30 psi and holding for at least 20 minutes. then add a known amount of freon to the system.
  • let it run for a while, it will take a little time to get the temperatures down.
