Question about Bernina Artista 180

I can't install Bernina Version 4 on my VISTA Operating system PC

Both of the computers I had with the software loaded died in the same week. They were Windows XP. Our newest computer is has Windows Vista.
When I put in the disc and try to install the four files that are listed, instead of reading install.exe, it says install application. When I click on the file, it acts as if it is loading, it simply will not load. Does anybody have any ideas?

As far as I know, Bernina version doesn't work on Windows Vista, you have to upgrade to the next Bernina Designer version which is Vista compatible.

Security device not found when trying to load Bernina v4.0 Software

Be sure that your dongle is plugged into the computer when you boot the software. If it is plugged in and you are having trouble, your computer may not have the proper driver for the dongle. If you are on a newer operating system, it is also likely that the older version of the software are no longer compatible with newer operating systems.

Hi my computer will not recognise my dongle I am getting a 1402 error

You did not say what version you are installing. When I was loading Bernina version 4 your xp computer with sp2 or sp3 the dongle (security device). The bernina software will not be recognized until the driver is updated. Support told me to go to http://berninasupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/302/related/1/sno/0
then download HDD32.EXE
save on your desk top. follow instructions.
you also need active sync 3.8
http://berninasupport.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/380/kw/active%20Sync%203.8/r_id/166

these two items set my computer strait to connect to my Bernina 200 E with version 4.
hope this will help

I need to hook up my bernina 180e sewing machine to my new laptop with windows 7. There is no connection port to plug in my dongle. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can make this system work?

I am assuming that you are talking about the cable from the sewing machine to the computer...

Here is the disappointing answer. You cannot hook the 180e up to a Windows System 7 computer or Vista. I have an older computer with XP on it just for my sewing machine. If you want to hook up the sewing machine to a computer that does not have a 9-pin, you will need to buy an adapter that goes from 9-pin to USB. I bought one from Belkin, and you may need to buy it online. It costs about $30.

I have the embroidary software version 4 that has a dongle. It will also not work on Vista or System 7 and the Bernina dealer says I can upgrade for $400.

Version 4 of bernina artista will not load on my new computer

I have a solution. (sorry for my bad english) Last week is the notebook of my wife broke down (mainboard was ten years old). So we bought a new one. So I tried install artista V4, no chance (bernina said, you can update to V5). Next step, I install a XP-Pro on the new notebook (no chance too, because I can't find all drivers, they don't develop new drivers for XP).

Now my solution:
I installed a virtual machine (vmware player) with XP-Professional (which I have). At this XP-Machine I installed the artista V4 - it runs!

You can find a lot of help for installing a virtual machine in the www.

If you want, I'll describe the install-process for my vmware.

I hope I could help!

Regards
David

Bernina Embroidery Software version 4

If you have Vista 32-bit the following will work. If you have Vista 64-bit it will not work and they don't plan to fix it I'm told.

To do so:
  1. Open Windows Explorer. (use to be called My computer)
  2. Location the application executable. (if you have the CD in right click it and choose Open.)
  3. Right click the executable (setup.exe) and click the Properties option.
  4. Select the Compatibility tab.
  5. Select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode option. From the drop-down list, choose the operating system you ran before upgrading to Vista. (I choose XP with service pack.)
  6. Click "apply" and then "ok". That window will close.
  7. Right click the setup.exe icon again and choose to "run program as an administrator".
  8. Click OK.
  9. double click the "setup.exe' icon and it should work.

Downloading bernina

Hi, Unfortunately any of Bernina's software that is older than Version 5 , will not work with Vista. There are some software patches available on the berninausa.com web site, but there is nothing out there that will help you if you have any Version 4 software or older. Microsoft really through out a curveball to everyone with VISTA as there is a lot of software out there that will not work in that operating system.
Actually the lowest cost solution would be to get a nice used computer that runs Windows XP. You do not need a super fast, state of the art computer to run embroidery programs.
I bought a nice used computer at a yard sale for $10.00 and it even came with the XP install disk. I replaced the hard drive just because they do wear out after a few years, installed XP in it ann that computer is now in my wife's sewing room and it is only used for her embroidery work.
You might have a computer repair shop in your area where you can buy an older XP computer that has been reconditioned. The few dollars you would spend to get an older computer would cost you far less than buying new Bernina Version 5 software. Good luck...bushvideo
