Question about Dell Optiplex G240 (OPTIG240) PC Desktop

1 Answer

I have Dell G240 computer that had a major virus so I bought a Seagate ST3243A hard drive with XP on the drive. The BIOS recognizes the hard drive and then before going into Windows. I changed the alternate jumper setting on the Seagate to limit to 4092 cylinders and the master/slave combo to no avail.Any other reccomendations?

Yes, the manual on the Seagate reads some older computers may hang because they cannot read 4092 cylinders. The company added a 2nd jumper to lower the setting, either setting still hangs the computer. I did not find the computer`s ability to read the size of the HD on the Dell manual

If Windows was all ready installed, you will probably have to reinstall it. I got a new (used)PC, and put my old drive in it, and all I see after BIOS is a blinking cursor, but I can access the drive booting from the drive that came with the PC.

Hi There. I am looking for an Internal Hard Drive to suit a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160Gb ST9160821AS. Where can I get one or is there another Hard Drive that would be OK to use...

I suggest you check the specification of your Dell laptop to see the maximum size hard drive it can support. The maximum size hard disk you can install in the laptop depends upon the BIOS.
Any major brand of 2 1/2" hard drive will work with the Dell.

How do i format the seagate 5400 160 gig hard drive?

Configuring the BIOS
After completing the drive installation, restart your computer. Your computer
may automatically detect your new drive. If your computer does not
automatically detect your new drive, follow the steps below.
1. Restart your computer. While the computer restarts, run the system
setup program (sometimes called BIOS or CMOS setup). This is usually
done by pressing a special key, such as DELETE, ESC, or F1 during
the startup process.
2. Within the system setup program, instruct the system to auto detect
your new drive.
3. Save the settings and exit the setup program.
When your computer restarts, it should recognize your new drive.

Sabrent 5in1 USB-DSC5 doesn't recognize 2.5" WD hard drive

I have had a different problem with this product. But, I have read many postings on its problems. It seems that for certain hard drives the jumper should be set for something other than 'master', either CS or no jumper at all. This seems to be true for only certain HD's.

Hope this helps.
