Most likely this is a DRIVER issue. The computer does not recognize the device. it is talking in a foreign language unless the translator (driver) is installed.
What is your Operating System?
XP, Vista, or Windows 7
You can download the correct driver for your O.S.
CLICK HERE - select OpticFilm 7200, and Driver, and then your O.S.

Please use the "continue with this expert" option and reply with your O.S. if you require more help.

Thanks for using FixYa!!

Im not looking for a serial number - just the operating system you are using.

    XP.

    Good.

Go to the site I referenced above and download the driver to your desktop.

    Then click START--CONTROL PANEL--SYSTEM

Click on the Hardware tab.... and click device manager.

Look for any occurances of the 7200 in the listing, and right click on it and select delete.

All this is doing is removing any trace of the device being installed on your computer.

Once it is no longer in the list.... shut down the PC normally.

Plug in the 7200 to the wall and computer.

    Boot up PC

Let XP find the new hardware (the 7200)

And when it asks to point it to the driver - have it look on your desktop for the required file.

If you need more assistance let me know!

    Thanks

If you got Silverfast with the scanner, the driver should be on the CD.
But you still can get support from Silverfast for your software. I'm sure they can provide the driver, or can tell you where to get it.

I have a Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE film scanner. Every time I try and load-up the setup disc, the set up install starts and then comes up with this error message: An error (-500 : 0x8004ace8) has...

It is quite possible that there is another piece of software that is clashing with your Plustek OpticFilm scanner. It is hard to tell which software is having a clash. If you remove that software from your system you will obtain the desired results. I suspect the SP3 of Windows XP may be responsible for this because Microsoft has indicated that Windows XP SP3 is not for everyone. If you install Windows XP SP2 uninstalling XP SP3 your problem can definitely be rectified.
Good Luck!
