Question about GE Profile PDS22SBSRSS

Open Question

I have a GE PDS22SBSARSS, just under 4 years old. Several times a day it clicks for a few minutes, during which time there are no temperature readings on the display. When it stops, the temperatures are much colder than the settings - just now the freezer was showing -15(set at 0) and the refrigerator at 11 (set at 37). What's up?

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

I finally called GE about the non-working LED's and the temperature fluctuation. It's a known problem as many consumers have posted online. I called 800-386-1215 several times. What I found is I'd get different menu options nearly each time I called. The way I got to a 'helpful' human follows: Call above number; you will/may here a voice that states only 'for recalled appliances press 9' (may also have options for repair or parts) PRESS 0; next menu PRESS 5; you'll hear 'for less than 1 yr old press 1' and 'for more than 1 yr press 2'. In my case I pressed 2, then got a menu with 'for refrigerators PRESS 2'. Spoke to a woman who never denied that GE has a motherboard problem. She offered to provide a free motherboard but no labor. I asked (to be sure) if I would have to pay labor, she said yes or I could have $400 off a new crappy GE fridge. She said I would have to have a repairman come to diagnose the problem, then order the part and then come back to repair. I then said, 'You're telling me that I have to pay for TWO service calls to repair a known GE defect???? How much should I expect to pay for these TWO service calls???' She then asked me to hold, then came back on the line and told me that GE would pay the labor for the repair.
I also asked if GE was willing to do anything about the 25 cent door latch that cracked after 11 months (and is attached to the door gasket a $228.00 part) or the rusting wire freezer baskets and was told no. Hey, worth a try! The fact that they said no ensures that I will continue on my crusade to warn anyone who'll listen not to buy GE! Keep calling, after I got the right menu the wait was short the whole call was less than 15 minutes.

SOURCE: The refrigerator temperature keeps dropping

I had the same problem with my GE GSS25LGMB and after some googling I learned that the damper door might be broken. Indeed after I took off the damper assembly the door appeared to be broken at the hinge. This door has its own thermostat and controls the influx of cold air into the fridge which explains the frozen food. I am trying to glue the broken piece back on. See if it works. Othwersie you'll have to replace the entire damper assembly which costs about $91. (http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?item=WR49X10091&brand=GEH)

SOURCE: Model # PDS22SFSBKSS Bottom Freezer. Its making a

Hi you need to replace the main motherboard, depending on the age you should call GE if they service your area they will discount the cost of the repair if it qualifies and its cheaper than doing it yourself, if it doesnt qualify then the board usually is around $175.00 just to buy not including to install if you have it installed, this needs to be done quickly prolonged use with bad motherboard on this model will damage sealed system, ruining the entire refrigerator. If you need further assistance let me know.

Check the thermostat for debris since you could have knocked something loose during the water pump swap. I would probably buy a new thermostat because they are cheap/easy to swap and you could always return it. A timing belt is a pretty extensive undertaking especially in a front wheel drive in which the engine may need to be un-mounted on that side, and likely many other things disconnected and reconnected throughout the process. Did you swap the timing belt, or take it to a shop. It may still be covered under some type if limited warranty if you could prove this to be the cause.

My GE fridge model PFS22SBSASS clicks for hours at a time then goes off for a day or so. We suspect thermostat. It is 4 years old. Seems to be working normally but fear breakdown

Greetings,
you say you hear a clicking sound? if this happens every five minutes or so and the compressor won't start...its most likely the ptc assembly(starts compressor) its even possible compressor at fault, but if it works ok for awhile most likely the PTC needs replacing....Bruce Denton

Washer stops several times in the middle of cycle

possibly it could be your un-balance switch getting very sensitive to any type of movement of the machine, normally they only actuate during the spin cycle when you have a very off balanced load of clothes

If the starter relay at the compressor is not the problem then the compressor is. I would replace the relay(you should be able to find it by the click when the compressor starts) and if that don't fix it a tech would have to be called.

Sounds like the main control board is bad . Check your warranty to see if board could still be covered .

If the clicking sound is coming from the back of the refrigerator at the compressor, you have a faulty starting device or faulty compressor. The compressor has a 5 year warranty so call to have someone out if you can.

Old message, you probably have had a few machines more by now.
If bnot, take it back; the bimetal thermal switch that is responsible for cycling the machine is 'bad.' Actually, it's Chinese and they haven't quite figured out how to make these reliable.
This type of switch has been around for 3/4 century and those made in the US were only used for protection and cycled only to prevent fire in some equipment. Because they are a sandwich of two metals, they flex to switch when their design temperature is reached. Just because of metal fatigue, they really aren't intended to switch off and on several times a minute as they must in a drip coffee maker.
